Key Skills And Responsibilities
- Monitors and responds to triage calls in the call center.
- Has a thorough understanding of confidentiality, current HIPAA regulations and organizational HIPAA policies
- Evaluates and assesses patient’s health care needs based on patient’s signs and symptoms utilizing established triage protocols and guidelines
- Obtains appropriate input and direction from the provider as needed to determine best clinical course of action and recommendations for specific patient health care needs.
- May direct patient to emergency room, urgent care, provide home care advice or schedule patients to their physician during office hours, based on clinic protocols and guidelines.
- Follows policies, procedures, and protocols to ensure consistency and effectiveness as well as improve health care outcomes of patients/callers and their access to appropriate health care advice
- Utilize triage protocols appropriately.
- Assures that pertinent medical information is forwarded to proper departments as needed for continuity of patient care.
- Accurately documents symptoms/complaints, assessment, advice provided and patient/caller response.
- Treats patients, family members, and other staff with dignity and respect.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Possesses knowledge of outpatient medical practice
- Maintains strong working relationship with other staff and departments in the Center.
- Knowledge of common safety, and infection control
- Comfortable treating patients with complex needs including behavioral health, poverty-related issues and disability issues.
- Strong critical thinking and decision-making abilities
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Proficiency with technology, such as EHR systems and video conferencing tools
- Compassion and a patient-centered approach
- Ability to remain calm and work efficiently under pressure
- Must possess a minimum of Associates Degree in Nursing
- Registered Nurse (RN) in Missouri.
- 3 years professional nursing experience preferred.
