Position Summary:
Arthur Center is looking for a Family Support Specialist who brings both heart and lived experience to this role. You will work directly with parents, guardians, and families of youth with serious emotional disorders walking alongside them through difficult seasons, connecting them to the resources they need, and helping them build the confidence and knowledge to advocate for their children. This is not a desk job. It is relational, flexible, and deeply meaningful work. Key Tasks and Responsibilities
Family Support & Education
- Administer a family support program including consumer and family education, training, and access to community resources.
- Assist and coach families to increase their knowledge and awareness of their child's needs and available options.
- Provide moral support and a steady, encouraging presence during crisis and other critical periods.
- Work with parents and caregivers from diverse backgrounds with cultural sensitivity and respect.
Resource Navigation & Care Coordination
- Maintain an up-to-date list of community resources to assist families in locating needed services.
- Link families with appropriate services and supports based on their individual needs.
- Collaborate with clinicians and the treatment team to meet the educational and support needs of families served by Arthur Center.
- Comply with directives from the Youth Community Services team and the broader treatment team.
General Duties
- Maintain accurate documentation of all family interactions and services provided.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills and Attributes:
- Lived experience as a caregiver for or supporter of a family member with a mental illness
- Strong interpersonal skills with a warm, encouraging, and non-judgmental approach.
- Ability to work with parents and caregivers from diverse cultural, social, and economic backgrounds.
- Good written communication skills and ability to maintain accurate documentation.
- Committed to confidentiality and the ethical handling of sensitive family information.
- Self-directed and able to work independently while also contributing effectively as part of a team.
- Flexible availability to meet families when and where they need support.
- Comfortable with basic computer use for documentation and communication.
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor's degree preferred.
- Lived experience supporting a family member with a mental illness is required.
- Missouri resident for at least two years.
- Must possess or be able to obtain a valid Class E Missouri driver's license.
- Must successfully complete required background checks through DSS, DMH, and law enforcement agencies.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to drive for extended periods across a six-county service area in central Missouri.
- General office environment work including extended periods of computer use for documentation.
- Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds, including carrying a laptop and materials to and from client appointments.
