What are the responsibilities and job description for the Vice President Finance position at Artemis?
About the Role
We are a high-tech, hypergrowth organization and are seeking a VP of Finance who will be a senior financial and operational leader responsible for building and scaling the financial infrastructure required to support production-scale manufacturing, industrialization, and commercialization of next-generation aerospace systems.
This leader will own the financial strategy, systems, and analytical frameworks that enable end-to-end visibility into manufacturing cost, material flow, inventory health, and production scaling. The role is deeply embedded in operations and will function as a key thought partner to Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Engineering, and Executive Leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and lead the overall financial strategy for Supply Chain, Materials, and Manufacturing Cost Accounting as the organization transitions to full-scale production.
- Serve as a senior advisor to executive leadership on cost structure evolution, production scalability, and capital efficiency during commercialization.
- Build and lead a high-performing finance organization supporting manufacturing operations, including Supply Chain Finance, Cost Accounting, and Inventory Analytics.
- Architect end-to-end financial frameworks that integrate BOM, MRP, MES, and ERP systems to ensure accurate, real-time visibility into production cost and material consumption.
- Establish scalable processes for tracking, reconciling, and forecasting inventory movement across a rapidly evolving production environment.
- Own enterprise-wide BOM-to-production reconciliation processes, ensuring alignment between engineering specifications, production execution, and financial reporting.
- Lead advanced variance analysis across materials, labor, yield, and manufacturing execution, including root cause identification and corrective action planning.
- Develop governance structures to manage BOM evolution over time as product configurations and production rates scale.
- Develop sophisticated financial models capturing learning curves, cost-down trajectories, and production scaling effects across product generations and manufacturing blocks.
- Translate unit economics into production-scale financial planning, including high-volume rate assumptions and long-term cost reduction pathways.
- Partner with Engineering and Manufacturing leadership to continuously refine cost drivers and production assumptions.
- Influence production planning, sourcing strategy, insourcing/outsourcing decisions, and capacity expansion through financial insight and analysis.
- Support capital investment decisions tied to manufacturing expansion, tooling, facilities, and production systems.
- Lead the evolution of finance systems supporting manufacturing scale, including ERP/MRP integration, reporting automation, and analytics infrastructure.
- Identify and resolve systemic data integrity issues across supply chain and manufacturing systems.
About You
- 12–15 years of progressive experience in Finance, Cost Accounting, Supply Chain Finance, or Manufacturing FP&A, with significant leadership experience in high-growth or scaling industrial environments.
- Demonstrated experience building financial infrastructure to support scale-up from prototype or low-rate initial production into high-rate manufacturing.
- Strong background in advanced cost modeling, including learning curves, cost-down modeling, and unit economics at scale.
- Ability to operate fluently across engineering, manufacturing, and finance disciplines, translating technical operational complexity into financial insight and executive-level decision support.
- Strong leadership experience building and scaling finance teams in fast-paced, ambiguous environments.
- Exposure to advanced manufacturing environments (e.g., additive manufacturing, composites, complex aerospace systems).
- Prior experience in aerospace, defense, automotive, or other high-complexity industrial sectors transitioning to scale production.
