A welder in manufacturing is a skilled craftsperson who uses heat to join pieces of metal together permanently. They play a critical role in the creation of a wide range of products.
Specific expectations of a Welder may include but not limited to:
Job Description:
- Adheres to all safety, quality, and productivity standards.
- Follows all welding procedures and standard practices.
- Reads and interprets engineering drawings, blueprints, and welding symbols.
- Performs welding (mostly MIG) on various metals, including steel and aluminum.
- Maintains quality workmanship, inspecting all welds for compliance and performs peer quality checks as needed.
- Creates jigs and fixtures for jobs as required.
- Accurately documents work completed and material usage for jobs.
- Maintains welding equipment to include setup and preventative maintenance.
- Uses tools and measuring equipment such as cranes, grinders, band saws, port-a-bands, torch and plasma cutters, mag drills, and other hand tools as required.
- Maintains a team player attitude, striving to help our team to succeed.
- Must be physically capable of completing all duties as required, to include other responsibilities as required.
- Manufacturing facilities can be loud, hot, and brightly lit.
- Welders may be exposed to fumes, dust, and sparks.
- The work can be physically demanding, requiring standing, bending, and lifting heavy objects.
- Must have knowledge of manufacturing/construction processes and fabrication techniques like cutting sheet metal, framing/installing windows and doors, mounting parts and materials per print and diagram.
- Must have the ability to operate power tools, grinders, chop saws, fabrication equipment, overhead cranes, manlifts and forklifts. Must be able to read and properly use a tape measure.
- Ability to perform all operations within acceptable quality and time standards.
- Will be cross trained in other job functions/departments based on capacity requirements.
- Must be physically capable of completing all duties as required, to include other responsibilities as required.
Qualifications:
- Previous MIG welding experience required.
- Knowledge of TIG, MIG, laser, butt, and arc welding techniques.
- Must pass a welding test prior to employment.
- AWS/CWB certifications available.
- Knowledgeable with measuring and welding inspection instruments.
- Computer literacy: email, job clocking and payroll software, etc.....
