Plant Maintenance Mechanic

Location: Billerica, MA Employment Type: Temp-to-Perm Shift: 1st Shift Salary Range: $30.00 – $40.00 Hourly

Overview

Perform electrical and mechanical maintenance duties to support production operations and facility systems. Ensure reliable operation of production equipment, utilities, and plant infrastructure. Work collaboratively with production, engineering, and external vendors to minimize downtime, improve equipment performance, and maintain a safe and efficient facility.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform maintenance and repair of electrical systems, compressed gases, water systems, and refrigeration equipment to ensure uninterrupted operation.
• Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair production and support equipment using sound mechanical and electrical practices.
• Conduct preventive maintenance activities to maintain equipment performance and reduce downtime.
• Isolate malfunctions, disassemble equipment, and repair or replace defective components.
• Document all maintenance activities, equipment modifications, and completed repairs.
• Coordinate and oversee activities of maintenance personnel and outside contractors as needed.
• Maintain inventory of maintenance materials, tools, supplies, and spare parts.
• Assist with equipment layout, installation, and facility modifications within the plant.
• Communicate effectively with equipment vendors, contractors, and utility providers.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in accordance with company standards.
• Support compliance with all applicable safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements (OSHA, EPA, DEP).
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Strong troubleshooting skills in electrical and mechanical systems within a manufacturing environment.
• Ability to read and interpret technical schematics, blueprints, and drawings.
• Working knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and DEP regulations related to plant operations and hazardous waste maintenance.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively with cross-functional teams and outside vendors.
• Strong organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and respond effectively in a fast-paced environment.
• Commitment to maintaining high standards of safety and housekeeping (6S).

Education & Experience

• Minimum of five (5) years of experience in mechanical, electrical, and industrial maintenance.
• Required: Proven experience working in a CNC machine shop environment.
• High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification or degree in a related field preferred.
• Proficiency in documenting repairs and maintaining digital or manual maintenance logs.
