The SLP Health Care specialist is a full-time position, responsible for ensuring the standards of health care for the participants in SLP are met through both in-person support and database maintenance. These standards are outline in the Washington Administrative Code (WAC) as well as DDA Policy. The SLP Health Care Specialist is a member of the SLP larger leadership team assisting a team of DSPs and Coordinators in maintaining the support of participants receiving contracted services. The core responsibility of the Health Care Specialist is to ensure the health care needs of the participants in SLP are being monitored and achieved through proactive planning, proper documentation, and thorough training of DSPs with a focus on maintaining clients health records through Therap. This includes but is not limited to in home care, appointments, and medication needs.

 Essential Functions                                                                                                                                                                     

  • Establish, Organize, and Maintain Records: Responsible for creating, organizing, and managing files and records for SLP participants using Therap data entry system.
  • Ordering Medical Equipment and Supplies: Coordinate the procurement of durable medical equipment and other necessary supplies for participants, collaborating with various funding sources including insurance providers.
  • Inventory Management: Maintain department-wide inventory of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to ensure availability and compliance with safety standards.
  • Certification Management: Oversee the certification process for direct support professionals, including maintaining records of credentials such as delegations, CPR, and Nursing Assistant-Registered (NAR) certifications.
  • HIPAA-Compliant Procedures: Fulfill requests in a HIPAA-compliant and timely manner, both internally and externally.
  • Medication Audits: Conduct monthly audits of medication records to ensure accuracy and compliance with regulations.
  • Medical Records Management: Ensure accuracy and currency of Medication Administration Records (MARS) and medical records on a daily basis, addressing inaccuracies promptly and escalating issues as necessary.
  • Discontinued Medication Management: Serve as backup for ensuring proper disposal of discontinued medications and updating Medication Administration Records accordingly.
  • Individual Support Plan Review: Review participant Individual Support Plans (ISPs) during 6-month reviews to verify accuracy of medical and health-related sections.
  • Appointment Coordination: Track and coordinate all Health Care appointments for participants to ensure routine care, follow-up, and communication between Health Care professionals.
  • Meeting Participation: Attend meetings with Health Care Manager and SLP leadership as required.
  • Assistance with Appointments: Transport participants to appointments and/or attend telehealth appointments as needed.
  • Staff Training and Orientation: Assist with orientation and training of new staff members.
  • Annual Assessments: Participate in participant annual assessments with DDA as assigned.
  • State Audit Assistance: Assist with state audits as required.
  • Staff Mentoring: Provide mentoring and support to staff members.
  • Team Meetings: Actively participate in SLP team meetings to address participant and team needs.
  • Nurse Delegation Coordination: Maintain an updated list of participant prescription medications requiring nurse delegation and assist with organizing and facilitating Nurse Delegation trainings.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure departmental operations comply with Washington Administrative Code (WAC) regulations.
  • Communication Management: Review and follow up on communication logs such as T-logs, outlook emails and S-comms.
  • Emergency Response: Carry a 24-hour emergency phone on a rotation basis with other members of the SLP Leadership team.
  • Calendar Management: Maintain an up-to-date Outlook calendar.
  • Caseload Coverage: Serve as backup for covering caseload as needed.
  • Additional Responsibilities: Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications:
  • Interpersonal Skills: Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Prioritization: Ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Education/Experience: Associate degree in Health Care-related field or a minimum of two years' experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities.
  • Computer Skills: Proficiency in MS Office and experience with databases; knowledge of Therap database preferred.

  • Education/Experience: Associate-degree in Health Care-related field or a minimum of two years' experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities.
  • Computer Skills: Proficiency in MS Office and experience with databases; knowledge of Therap database preferred.

 Hours/Salary/Benefits

  • This is a full-time non-exempt position.
  • This position is eligible for The Arc of King County’s employee benefits package which includes medical, dental, and vision insurance, 401(K), EAP, Orca card, paid holidays, paid personal leave, and more.
  • Hourly Wage $25-27/hour
