Staff/Senior Accountant Job Description

Job Summary

Certain of these qualifications and responsibilities apply most directly to a staff-level role, and certain to a senior-level role. Applicants’ eligibility between these role opportunities will be determined based on their experience and qualifications.

Under direct or limited supervision, the accountant position will perform a variety of routine technical accounting work, general ledger entries and reporting, maintaining and reconcile general ledger balances. These duties require a strong application of accounting principles, practices, and theory to ensure accuracy and compliance with company policies and industry standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Performs professional accounting work such as entering transactions, performing and reviewing reconciliations, trial balances, journal entries, variance analyses, preparing working papers, schedules and reports.
• Examines a variety of accounting documents to verify accuracy of computations.
• Ensure that transactions are in accordance with applicable authority, policies, procedures, and are recorded consistently and within accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
• Prepares accounting reports utilizing manual methods and/or computer software.
• Coordinate with Director of Accounting and the rest of the accounting team in achieving fast and accurate month and year end close reporting, reconciliations, and procedures.
• Prepare and file multi-state sales and use tax returns, ensure compliance with state and local tax regulations, research taxability issues, and assist with audits and tax notices.
• Assist in periodic audits

Qualifications & Skills 

• Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required. CPA or MBA is a plus, but not required.

• Experience: 1 years of accounting or finance experience, or equivalent internship, co-op, or relevant academic experience.
• Experience with multi-state sales and use tax compliance
• Strong knowledge of accounting principles (GAAP) and financial statements.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to clear documentation
• Experience with Microsoft Business Central ERP system, QuickBooks, and tax compliance tools is a plus.
• Advanced Excel skills required, including the ability to manipulate large data files to perform various analysis using tools such as XLOOKUPs & Pivot Tables.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven team environment.
