Project Manager – Government & Commercial Construction

Appleton Finn are partnered with a long-established, family-oriented General Contractor in Fort Myers who are looking to appoint a Project Manager to support continued growth across their public-sector and commercial construction portfolio.
This is an opportunity to join a highly respected GC with deep roots in Southwest Florida, delivering projects across government, municipal, healthcare, education, emergency services, and community infrastructure sectors.
Unlike large corporate contractors, our client offers a collaborative, hands-on environment where Project Managers are trusted with genuine responsibility, direct client interaction, and long-term career progression.
The Opportunity
The successful candidate will oversee projects from preconstruction through closeout, working closely with operations leadership, estimators, superintendents, subcontractors, and owners.
Projects typically range across:
- Municipal & government facilities
- Fire stations & emergency operations centers
- Healthcare & VA projects
- Parks & public infrastructure
- Educational & institutional buildings
- Commercial renovations & ground-up construction
This role would suit a Project Manager who enjoys being heavily involved operationally rather than working within a highly layered corporate structure.
Responsibilities
- Manage projects from award through completion
- Oversee budgeting, scheduling, procurement, subcontractor coordination, and project execution
- Maintain project documentation, reporting, and cost control
- Lead owner meetings and maintain strong client relationships
- Coordinate with field teams and support successful project delivery
- Review drawings, RFIs, submittals, change orders, and contract documents
- Ensure schedules are maintained using Primavera P6 and/or Procore
- Support billing processes and project financial tracking
- Work collaboratively with estimators and operations leadership
Requirements
- 4 years’ experience within commercial construction project management
- Experience with public-sector, municipal, healthcare, institutional, or government projects preferred
- Strong understanding of construction operations and project lifecycle management
- Ability to manage multiple responsibilities in a hands-on environment
- Experience with scheduling software (Primavera P6 highly preferred)
- Procore experience beneficial
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or related field preferred
