Primary Duties And Responsibilities
- Stewards are responsible for keeping the kitchen and related areas in top condition, supporting the culinary staff, and ensuring everything is ready for service.
- Cleaning and Sanitizing: Washing dishes, pots, pans, utensils, and kitchen equipment, then sanitizing and storing them properly to ensure they’re ready for use.
- Maintaining a Spotless Kitchen: Sweeping floors, wiping down surfaces, and cleaning equipment to keep the kitchen hygienic and organized.
- Waste Management: Handling trash, recyclables, and food waste, keeping disposal areas clean and orderly.
- Stocking Supplies: Assisting with receiving and organizing kitchen deliveries, ensuring ingredients and tools are always available.
- Supporting the Team: Helping with simple tasks like washing vegetables or setting up dining areas, including polishing silverware and glassware.
- Upholding Safety Standards: Following health and safety regulations to maintain a clean and hazard-free environment.
- Assisting the cafeteria cook with food delivery and cleaning and organizing of the employee break room area.
- Assisting with delivery of food requisitions from loading dock area walk-ins and freezers to the food outlets.
- Experience: Prior experience in a kitchen steward role or similar hospitality position is preferred, though not always required (entry-level candidates may receive on-the-job training)
- Daily on-premises presence required.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks efficiently.
- SERV Safe certification and sexual harassment training required.
- Familiarity with local Department of Health regulations, and relevant current laws governing handling of hazardous substances.
- Ability to train staff (stage employees) and ensure levels of quality and customer service typical of the standards of Appellation Hotel Healdsburg.
- Detail oriented, organized and efficient, and safety-minded.
- Good team player, and an ability to effectively work with team members to maintain a high level of morale and productivity.
- Reliability and Punctuality: Consistently show up on time and complete tasks efficiently to support the kitchen team.
- Stress Management: Stay calm and effective during high-pressure situations, such as busy service rushes.
- Frequent standing, walking and reaching (including overhead) for up to 8 hours per shift in a hot fast paced kitchen environment. Occasionally lift heavy objects(up to 50 lbs).
- Sanitation and Safety Standards: Knowledge of health, safety, and food sanitation regulations to maintain a compliant and clean kitchen.
- Equipment Knowledge: Familiarity with operating and maintaining commercial dishwashers, cleaning tools, and kitchen appliances.
- Care for Delicate Items: Skill in handling and cleaning delicate kitchenware (e.g., fine china, glassware, silverware) without damage.
- Basic Kitchen Operations: Understanding of kitchen workflows and safety protocols, with the ability to assist with minor tasks if needed.
- Collaboration: Work well with kitchen staff, chefs, and supervisors to ensure smooth and efficient operation.
- Communication Skills: Ability to understand instructions, report issues, and coordinate tasks with the team.
- Attention to Detail: Thoroughness in cleaning and organizing to meet the high standards of a luxury kitchen.
- Luxury Standards Awareness: Understanding of the elevated cleanliness and presentation expectations of Appellation Hotels
