Senior Software Engineer, Data Automation
This role is for engineers who enjoy solving hard data and infrastructure problems at scale. You will work on systems that sit at the core of a real time data platform, enabling analytics, automation, and insight generation for high volume customer data. The work is foundational, highly technical, and deeply impactful across the broader product and engineering ecosystem.
The Environment
You will be part of a cloud native organization operating a large scale data platform on modern infrastructure. The systems you build support continuous ingestion, transformation, and analysis of massive data streams, powering business critical functionality and data driven decision making. Engineers are encouraged to stretch beyond their comfort zones, learn new technologies, and take full ownership of the systems they create.
This role requires regular in person collaboration in a Boston based office environment, with an expectation of working onsite at least three days per week.
The Team Mission
The Data Automation team builds internal platforms and tooling that allow data platform engineers to provision, operate, and scale infrastructure efficiently. The focus is on removing friction, improving reliability, and enabling teams to move faster while maintaining strong operational discipline.
As part of this group, you will help design and operate mission critical analytics infrastructure that supports both real time and batch workloads. The systems you work on must be resilient, observable, and capable of handling extreme scale.
Your Role and Impact
As a Senior Software Engineer, you will design, build, and maintain distributed systems that form the backbone of the data platform. You will work closely with cross functional partners to define system architecture, write technical design documentation, and deliver high quality, production ready code.
You will be responsible for operating large scale systems in live environments, improving performance and reliability over time. You will review designs and code from other engineers, provide thoughtful feedback, and act as a technical mentor within the team and across the broader engineering organization.
What You Will Do
You will create infrastructure and automation that supports high volume data ingestion, processing, and storage. You will provision and manage cloud resources using infrastructure as code, ensuring systems are repeatable, secure, and observable.
You will design and operate distributed data systems that leverage both transactional and analytical data stores. You will help evolve pipelines for streaming and batch processing, supporting use cases that range from real time analytics to long running data transformations.
You will collaborate with other engineers to improve tooling, standards, and operational practices, contributing to a culture of ownership and continuous improvement.
What You Bring
You have seven or more years of professional software engineering experience and a strong foundation in building and operating distributed systems. You are highly proficient in at least one modern programming language and comfortable working in Linux based environments.
You have hands on experience provisioning cloud infrastructure using tools such as Terraform or similar infrastructure as code frameworks. You have designed and operated systems in cloud computing environments and understand the tradeoffs involved in scaling them reliably.
You are experienced with both OLTP and OLAP databases and have worked with high throughput data processing and storage systems. You communicate clearly in writing and conversation, work well within a team, and enjoy tackling difficult problems that require persistence and creativity.
You thrive in fast growing environments, continuously learning and adapting as systems and requirements evolve. You take pride in seeing complex problems through from initial design to stable production operation.
