Senior IT Project Manager — Enterprise Technology Programs

Lead complex technology initiatives that drive large-scale organizational transformation. This role offers the opportunity to oversee high-impact IT projects that span multiple departments, technology platforms, and business functions. The Senior IT Project Manager plays a central role in ensuring strategic initiatives are delivered successfully—on time, within scope, and aligned with business goals.

This position requires a strong leader who can coordinate cross-functional teams, manage project risks, and guide complex programs through the full lifecycle of planning, development, implementation, and delivery. The ideal candidate combines technical project management expertise with strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with both business leaders and technical teams.

Role Overview

The Senior IT Project Manager is responsible for managing large-scale technology initiatives that involve multiple stakeholders, complex dependencies, and a blend of internal and external resources. These projects may involve enterprise software development, infrastructure upgrades, digital transformation initiatives, or operational system enhancements.

This role serves as the central point of coordination between business leaders, technical teams, external vendors, and executive sponsors. Success in this position requires the ability to guide teams through complex challenges while maintaining clear visibility into project progress, costs, risks, and performance metrics.

Key Responsibilities

Program & Project Leadership

Lead enterprise technology projects from concept through final implementation. Coordinate cross-functional teams across IT and business functions to ensure that project objectives are clearly defined and successfully delivered.

Project Planning & Estimation

Develop detailed project proposals, timelines, and cost estimates. Define project scope, identify resource needs, and establish milestones that guide the successful delivery of project outcomes.

Risk & Issue Management

Identify potential risks early in the project lifecycle and implement mitigation strategies to prevent disruptions. Manage project issues through structured problem-solving and stakeholder collaboration.

Budget & Resource Management

Monitor project budgets and resource utilization to ensure effective allocation of both labor and non-labor project costs. Forecast resource capacity needs and adjust plans to maintain project momentum.

Execution Across the Development Lifecycle

Oversee the full lifecycle of project activities including requirements gathering, system design, development, testing, and final deployment.

Dependency & Critical Path Management

Track project dependencies and identify critical path activities to ensure that project timelines remain achievable and aligned with delivery goals.

Stakeholder Engagement

Build strong working relationships with executive sponsors, business leaders, and technical teams. Communicate complex project details clearly and ensure stakeholders remain aligned throughout the project lifecycle.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

Facilitate collaboration between departments, vendors, and external technology partners to ensure consistent communication and coordinated project execution.

Documentation & Reporting

Create clear and concise documentation outlining project processes, risk mitigation plans, technical considerations, and progress updates. Develop visual materials such as diagrams, process maps, and presentations that simplify complex concepts.

Team Leadership & Coordination

Provide leadership and direction to project team members while coordinating assignments, tracking progress, and ensuring accountability across the project team.

Status Reporting & Governance

Provide regular status updates to leadership teams, highlighting project progress, resource utilization, scope changes, and potential risks that could impact project outcomes.

Vendor & Partner Coordination

Manage relationships between internal stakeholders, external technology providers, and service partners to ensure alignment on project objectives and delivery expectations.

Required Qualifications

Professional Experience

At least seven years of experience managing technology or business transformation projects that involve cross-functional teams and complex system environments.

Project Management Expertise

Extensive knowledge of project management frameworks including Agile methodologies, Waterfall processes, and the broader Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC).

Leadership Skills

Demonstrated ability to lead diverse project teams while mentoring team members, coordinating tasks, and maintaining strong team collaboration.

Stakeholder Management

Proven ability to communicate effectively with executive sponsors, senior leadership, and operational teams while maintaining strong professional relationships.

Financial Oversight

Experience Managing Project Budgets And Forecasting Resource Capacity Requirements.

Business Process Analysis

Strong ability to analyze and document business processes, identify improvement opportunities, and translate business requirements into technical solutions.

Change Management

Experience implementing change management strategies that support successful project adoption and organizational transformation.

Documentation & Communication

Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex information clearly through reports, diagrams, and presentations.

Preferred Qualifications

Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.

Agile certifications such as Professional Scrum Master (PSM) or Professional Scrum Product Owner (PSPO).

ITIL certification (v3 or v4) or experience working within IT service management frameworks.

Experience working within large enterprise environments that involve multiple vendors, service providers, and technology partners.

Familiarity with projects supporting the energy or utilities sector.
