What are the responsibilities and job description for the Deputy Project Manager position at Andersen James Group?
Deputy Project Manager - Data Centers
We're looking for a Deputy Project Manager to support the delivery of complex commissioning and mission-critical projects with a third-party commissioning agent.
This role is ideal for someone with experience in construction, commissioning, building services, or project delivery who is ready to take the next step in their career. While technical knowledge is important, we're primarily looking for someone with excellent communication skills, humility, sound judgement, and the ability to build strong relationships.
The Role
You'll work closely with Project Managers, clients, contractors, consultants, and project teams to help deliver projects safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards.
Key responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
- Supporting the planning, coordination, and delivery of commissioning projects.
- Managing project communication, reporting, documentation, and schedules.
- Building strong relationships with stakeholders across multiple organisations.
- Assisting with project meetings, issue resolution, and site activities.
- Identifying risks and helping drive projects through to successful completion.
- Representing the project team confidently in meetings and discussions.
What We're Looking For
We're interested in people who can manage relationships as effectively as they manage projects.
You will:
- Have transferable experience from a similar industry such as wider construction, oil and gas, energy, pharmaceutical etc.
- Be an excellent communicator with a collaborative approach.
- Handle challenging conversations professionally and constructively.
- Be confident working with stakeholders who have competing priorities.
- Understand when to challenge decisions and maintain project standards.
- Take ownership, solve problems, and follow through on commitments.
- Be comfortable operating in fast-paced, high-profile project environments.
Ideal Experience
Backgrounds may include:
- Construction Management
- Commissioning
- MEP Construction
- Building Services
- Data Centre or Mission Critical Projects
- Project Coordination or Project Management
We are open to candidates from a variety of backgrounds. The ideal candidate will have previous experience as a Deputy Project Manager delivering mission-critical projects; however, we recognise that great project professionals come from different career paths.
If you have the right people skills, communication style, mindset, and a genuine ability to build relationships and manage stakeholders effectively, we would love to hear from you. We value attitude, emotional intelligence, and leadership potential just as highly as direct experience in a similar role.
Travel & Development
- Travel will be focused primarily between 2-3 sites in central states (to plug the gaps whilst the Project Managers are on rotation)
- Typical rotation of two weeks on-site and one week remote.
- Generally, 40β50 hours per week, with flexibility during key project phases.
This role offers a clear progression path from Deputy Project Manager to Project Manager, with future opportunities for leadership roles as the business continues to grow.
