American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Pediatric ICU position in Rapid City, SD, requiring at least 1.5 years of PICU experience and the ability to work across both the General Pediatrics and PICU units on 12-hour night shifts.
Details- 15-bed Pediatric Unit with a 5-bed PICU within a hospital setting
- Nurses will rotate through both General Pediatrics and PICU departments
- General Pediatrics patients range from 0–18 years and adult overflow (stable medical cases such as post-appendectomy, post-cholecystectomy, cellulitis); diagnoses include respiratory illness, diabetes, septicemia, hyperbilirubinemia, neglect/abuse, mental health, trauma, neurology, and general surgeries
- PICU patients range from 0–18 years requiring critical or intensive care for conditions including acute/chronic respiratory insufficiency, circulatory failure, infectious disease, endocrine/metabolic disorders, neurologic disease, toxic ingestions, trauma, and hematologic/oncologic disease
- Patient ratios: General Pediatrics 1:5; PICU 1:1–2
- Charting via Epic (experience required); Omnicell for medication dispensing
- 12-hour night shifts, 36 hours per week
- Every-other-weekend rotation required
- Holiday coverage required for all holidays
- May be placed on low census/on-call
- Float assignments may include the NICU (30-bed feeder/grower unit, 1:3 ratio) and General Pediatrics (up to 1:5 ratio)
- Active RN license issued by or valid in South Dakota (SD license or Compact RN license currently in hand)
- Current certifications required: BLS, PALS, and NIHSS
- Minimum 1.5 years of PICU RN experience required
- Proficient physical assessment skills for patients ages 0 to adult
- Experience titrating drips and caring for mechanically ventilated patients
- Proficiency with Epic charting system required
- Two professional references dated within the past year required for consideration
- DOB and SSN required for consideration
- Orientation consists of 1 day of facility orientation (online and in-person) followed by 2 days of unit orientation with a preceptor
- Unit support includes CNAs (1:5 ratio), a free-floating charge nurse covering both units, Respiratory Therapy, Hospitalist with Pediatric APP support, Pediatric Pharmacy, Social Work, and Case Management
- RNs and Nurse Aides are responsible for drawing their own labs; RNs start their own IVs with ultrasound available for difficult access
- Navy scrubs required
- Free parking available in an on-site parking garage
- Time off requests must be pre-approved
- First-time travelers are considered only with more than 2 years of PICU experience
- Candidates must reside more than 100 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
