American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a PCU Float position at a Level I Trauma Center, requiring Epic proficiency and comfort floating across all PCU and MS units.
Details- Float position covering all PCU and MS units within an acute care teaching hospital
- Level I Trauma Center (Adult & Pediatric), Magnet-designated facility affiliated with a medical school
- PCU patient ratio averages 5:1; MS patient ratio averages 6:1, with potential flex up to 7:1
- Night shift schedule: 3x12s, 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM
- Staffing needs are re-evaluated every 4 hours, with potential to float 2–3 times per shift
- Weekend requirement: every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts per 6-week scheduling block
- One holiday shift required per 13-week contract
- Epic EMR experience required
- Active Virginia state RN license or Compact RN license required; pending licensure accepted only for candidates holding a single-state license from a non-compact state
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
- Minimum 1–2 years of PCU, stepdown, or telemetry (DOU/IMC) nursing experience required
- Experience with IV therapy, phlebotomy, and blood product administration
- Proficiency in central line care, trach management, and non-invasive airway support including nasal cannula, CPAP/BiPAP, and chest tubes (Emerson/PleurEvac)
- Strong cardiac monitoring skills including dysrhythmia interpretation, titrating cardiac drips, and participation in Rapid Response/Code teams
- Experience managing PCA and heparin protocols, administering IV insulin, and caring for patients with endocrine/metabolic conditions
- Cardiovascular experience including pre/post cardiac cath care
- Two professional references required for consideration
- Copy of Driver's License and Social Security Card required for consideration
- Candidate must be comfortable working all PCU and MS units throughout the assignment
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply

- The facility may call off 1 shift per 2-week period
