Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Cardiovascular ICU (CVICU) position requiring current CVICU experience, travel nursing experience, and proficiency with Impella and IABP.
Details
- Acute care hospital setting in a Cardiovascular ICU (CVICU) with 4 beds designated for the acute recovery phase before patients transition to Medical ICU or Stepdown
- Patient population consists of critically ill adults and geriatric patients with complex cardiac needs, including those requiring invasive and non-invasive hemodynamic monitoring
- Patient ratios are 1:1 on POD#0, progressing to 1:2 on POD#1 as patient condition allows
- Telemetry monitoring is present on the unit; RNs are responsible for reading their own strips — no monitor techs on unit
- RT is not stationed in the ICU but is readily available as needed; respiratory equipment includes BiPAP, CPAP, and mechanical ventilation via trach and ET tube
- RNs are required to titrate drips, including Dopamine, Levophed, Vasopressin, Dobutamine, Argatroban, Amiodarone, Cardizem, Heparin, Insulin, Lasix, Epinephrine, and Neosynephrine
- CT Surgery serves as the attending physician, with critical care/pulmonology coverage available; Charge Nurse is primarily without patients and House Supervisor is available 24/7
- No nurse aides assigned to this unit
- EMR system is Epic
- 12-hour night shifts (6:45 PM – 7:15 AM)
- Every other weekend required
- Holiday coverage is rotational
- No on-call or standby requirement
- Floating to the Medical ICU is required when census in the CVICU is low
- 13-week contract
Requirements
- Active WV or Compact RN license required
- Current certifications required: BLS and ACLS (both AHA)
- TNCC certification preferred
- Minimum of 1–2 years of critical care experience required
- Current CVICU experience required
- Prior travel nursing experience required
- Proficiency with CRRT, Impella, and IABP required
- Experience reading telemetry strips required
- BSN not required
- Two supervisor/peer references required for consideration — if the candidate worked a permanent position within the past 12 months, one reference must be from that facility
- Skills checklist (completed within the past year) required for consideration
- Copies of certifications and driver's license required for consideration
Additional Information
- Orientation consists of general hospital orientation on day one, a full day of nursing orientation, a full day of computer/Epic training, and two 12-hour preceptored orientation shifts
- An abbreviated Initial Skills Checklist will be issued and is due within 90 days of start date
- Navy scrubs are required; scrubs must be solid color with no embroidery or patterns; approved outerwear includes WVU Medicine or solid-color fleece zip-ups in grey, black, navy, or royal blue; solid undershirts in white, grey, or black are permitted; closed-toe shoes only — no Crocs
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
- Travelers who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before re-applying
- Travelers may not work within the WVU system for more than one cumulative year without taking a 2-year break
