Position Overview
The Executive Chef is responsible for overseeing all culinary operations at Maseto, ensuring food quality, consistency, and execution align with brand standards. This role leads the kitchen team, maintains operational discipline, and delivers an exceptional dining experience through strong culinary leadership and systems.
Key Responsibilities
Culinary Leadership & Execution
- Oversee all kitchen operations, ensuring consistency, quality, and presentation of all menu items
- Execute menus, recipes, and plating standards according to concept guidelines
- Maintain cleanliness, organization, and food safety standards throughout the kitchen
- Lead service execution and ensure smooth coordination between kitchen and front-of-house
Team Leadership & Development
- Train, coach, and develop sous chefs, line cooks, and kitchen staff
- Set clear expectations and hold the team accountable to performance standards
- Foster a positive, professional, and disciplined kitchen culture
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing feedback
Operational Management
- Manage kitchen labor scheduling and ensure proper staffing coverage
- Oversee prep systems, station setup, and service readiness
- Ensure proper food handling, storage, labeling, and rotation (FIFO)
- Maintain equipment standards and coordinate maintenance needs with management
Food Cost & Controls
- Execute food cost controls and portion standards
- Ensure recipes, yields, and prep procedures are followed consistently
- Monitor waste and implement corrective actions as needed
- Participate in inventory counts and kitchen-level controls
Collaboration & Standards
- Work closely with the General Manager to align culinary execution with service goals
- Partner with Central Office on menu rollouts, training, and standards implementation
- Support new menu items, specials, and seasonal features as directed
Qualifications
- 5 years of culinary leadership experience, including Executive Chef or Sous Chef roles
- Strong understanding of kitchen operations, food safety, and labor management
- Proven ability to lead and motivate a high-performing culinary team
- Hands-on leadership style with strong attention to detail
- Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays as required
Preferred Experience
- Experience with Italian or chef-driven restaurant concepts
- Background in high-volume, full-service restaurant environments
- Experience opening or stabilizing new restaurant concepts
