Project Manager, Freight Forwarding
Base Salary: 85,000 to 120,000 dollars DOE
Location: Houston, TX
About the Role
This position manages end to end project logistics execution for international freight forwarding movements. The focus is heavy lift, out of gauge, breakbulk, charters, multi leg shipments and industrial cargo linked to energy, manufacturing and EPC clients. The Project Manager is responsible for planning, routing, compliance, documentation, vendor control and on time delivery across global origins and destinations.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, coordinate and manage full project logistics cycles for Air Freight, Ocean Freight and domestic transport.
- Develop routing plans, method statements, load plans and cost models for out of gauge, heavy lift and breakbulk cargo.
- Manage vendor relationships with carriers, charter operators, rigging teams, surveyors, truckers and crating providers.
- Prepare and validate project documentation including commercial invoices, packing lists, HBL, MBL, HAWB, MAWB, certificates, permits and letters of credit requirements.
- Ensure compliance with ITAR, EAR, BIS, CBP, hazmat, IMO and port regulations.
- Track all project cargo from pickup to delivery and provide real time updates to customers and internal stakeholders.
- Coordinate with engineering, operations and overseas offices to guarantee execution readiness and risk mitigation.
- Monitor project costs, vendor invoices, WIP, margins and ensure accurate billing.
- Conduct route surveys, risk assessments and site visits when required.
- Lead project calls, milestone reviews and customer presentations.
- Support tender responses, pricing exercises, scope reviews and project proposals.
What You Bring
- Five or more years of experience in project logistics or international freight forwarding.
- Knowledge of heavy lift, out of gauge, breakbulk, flat racks, charters and industrial cargo handling.
- Strong understanding of Air Freight and Ocean Freight export processes and documentation.
- Experience with EPC clients, oil and gas, energy, industrial construction or manufacturing logistics.
- Ability to manage multiple complex shipments with strict deadlines and technical requirements.
- Proficiency with CargoWise or similar freight forwarding TMS platforms.
- Strong communication, vendor management and problem solving capability.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent logistics experience.
