Director of Industrial Sales - Power Generation Equipment - Base Salary to 175k/year - Chicago, IL
- Our client is a regional industrial equipment distributor supporting customers across Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio. The organization provides power generation and related equipment solutions to electrical contractors, general contractors, and industrial end users.
- They are seeking a Director of Industrial Sales to lead sales operations across the Chicago and Indianapolis markets. This role is responsible for driving revenue growth, managing sales strategy, and leading a team supporting power generation and industrial equipment solutions. The Director of Industrial Sales oversees a team of 8, including outside sales representatives, project engineers, and application engineers, with a primary customer focus on electrical contractors (approximately 65% of business), along with general contractors and end users.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage regional sales operations across Chicago and Indianapolis territories
- Develop and execute sales strategies to drive revenue growth within power generation and industrial equipment markets
- Establish annual sales objectives, quotas, and performance metrics
- Monitor sales performance, margins, and product mix to maintain profitability
- Manage and develop a team of outside sales representatives, project engineers, and application engineers
- Oversee training, coaching, and performance evaluations of sales staff
- Build and maintain relationships with electrical contractors, general contractors, and industrial end users
- Identify and develop new business opportunities and strategic partnerships
- Collaborate with marketing on product positioning and go-to-market strategies
- Resolve customer issues related to sales, service, or delivery
- Support collections efforts in coordination with accounting when needed
- Stay current on industry trends, products, and competitive landscape
- Travel locally and occasionally overnight to support team and customer engagement
Qualifications:
- 5 years of progressive sales leadership experience
- 2 years of experience directly managing and developing sales teams
- Experience developing and executing sales strategies, quotas, and performance metrics
- Proven experience managing full sales cycle from planning through close
- Experience selling or supporting industrial equipment, power generation equipment, or related technical products
- Experience working with electrical contractors, general contractors, or industrial end users
- Ability to analyze sales data including margins, pricing, and gross profit
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and CRM/data entry systems
- Ability to travel within regional territories, including occasional overnight travel
Compensation:
- Base salary in the 150k - 175k/year range, plus bonus
