Project Manager II – Nuclear Capital Projects
Position Overview
We are seeking a Project Manager II to support capital facilities and construction projects at a nuclear generating facility. This role delivers upgrades, equipment replacements, building and facility modifications, long-term capital planning, and other infrastructure improvements.
Projects typically range from $100K to multi-million-dollar investments and require strict adherence to nuclear, regulatory, and safety standards.
This position manages 5–10 concurrent projects, coordinating engineering, maintenance, construction, contractors, vendors, and internal stakeholders to ensure successful delivery across scope, schedule, budget, quality, and risk requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage full lifecycle (“cradle to grave”) execution of facilities, construction, and capital improvement projects
- Develop and maintain scopes of work, schedules, budgets, long-term plans, and funding requests
- Lead project controls activities including cost tracking, forecasting, variance analysis, documentation, and reporting
- Interface daily with plant stakeholders including engineering, maintenance, operations, supply chain, finance, and leadership
- Source, contract, manage, and coordinate external contractors and vendors
- Prepare and deliver project presentations to leadership for funding and authorization approvals
- Conduct field walkdowns and plant observations to identify risks and ensure constructability
- Support risk management, quality assurance, safety compliance, and nuclear regulatory requirements
- Coordinate stakeholders during construction activities to ensure safe and successful execution
Work Environment & Schedule
- Primarily onsite
- Standard schedule: 40 hours per week during normal operations
- During outage periods: up to 60 hours per week, including extended shifts and weekends
- Occasional remote work may be approved
Required Qualifications
- 5–7 years of project management experience in facilities, construction, utilities, power generation, or commercial nuclear environments
- Demonstrated experience managing projects valued at $1M or greater
- Strong financial acumen including cost controls, forecasting, and variance analysis
- Familiarity with PMI/PMBOK methodologies (Waterfall/Predictive environments)
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, or Nuclear Engineering (ABET accredited preferred)
- Experience in commercial nuclear or utility/power plant environments
- Experience with SAP, Oracle Unifier, Workday/UKG, MS Project, or Primavera P6
- PMP certification strongly preferred
