The Air Force Civilian Service (AFCS) is looking for a Full-Time Fuels Distribution System Mechanic (WG-4255-10) to work with the 49th Civil Engineering Group, at Holloman AFB NM.


The primary purpose of this position is to install, inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, modify, repair, and manage liquid fuel storage, distribution, aircraft hydrant fueling, ground product dispensing systems, plumbing, water distribution, wastewater collection systems, water and wastewater treatment systems, fire suppression, backflow prevention systems, and natural gas distribution systems.


This mission-critical position offers the flexibility to hire like the private sector with a direct stream-lined application and expedited hiring process due to a severe shortage of candidates or critical hiring needs. This hiring approach is called Direct Hiring Authority (DHA) which allows the Air Force Civilian Service (AFCS) to hire applicants from the public with no prior federal civilian or Veteran status.

Pay Rate is $28.72- 33.52 an hour based on experience.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:

- Performs all phases of liquid fuels and water systems component maintenance including inspections, tests, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repair and system modifications.

- Inspects and tests electrical components in liquid fuel receiving, storage, and distribution facilities and performs preventive maintenance on these components.

- Participates in cleaning and inspection of the interior surface of bulk storage tanks for fuel and water systems, to include above and below ground, by entering tanks.

- Independently installs, modifies, repairs, and maintains a variety of new and existing utility, supply, and disposal systems and equipment such as sewage, water, oil, and gas distribution systems, and water closets, tubs, backflow prevention devices/assemblies, fire sprinkler systems, and showers.

- Assembles, installs and repairs pipes, fittings and fixtures of heating, water, and drainage systems, according to specifications and plumbing codes.

- Uses and maintains tools such as, multi-meters, flange spreaders, motor joists/lifts, hydraulic jacks, impact wrenches, pneumatic tools, air compressors, torque wrenches, prover tanks, portable electrical and air driven pumps, tubing benders, tapes, rules, plumb bobs, hand and power pipe threaders, cutters, pipe wrenches, angle drills, hacksaws and power saws, power sewer cleaning equipment, various combustible gas and toxic vapor detectors and meters, self-contained breathing apparatus, supplied air respirators, and various personnel protective equipment.

- Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work environment.


RECRUITMENT KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSA):

- Knowledge of fuel/utility distribution and storage systems and of the physical properties and hazards associated with the handling of various types of petroleum fuels.

- Knowledge of preventive maintenance and inspection techniques as applied to fuel distribution, storage and utility systems.

- Knowledge of safety, environmental and security regulations, procedures, and practices.

- Skill in calibration of fuel dispensing/metering devices and pressure gauges.

- Skill in installing, modifying, and repairing new and existing utility, supply, and disposal systems and equipment without more than normal supervision.

- Skill in techniques used to measure, cut, thread, join, and fit piping and tubing.

- Ability to analyze deficiencies and diagnose malfunctions of system components such as automatic control valves, pumps, flow meters, etc.

- Knowledge of troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of electrical components such as electric motors, disconnect switches, starters, contactors, solenoids, and magnetic switches.

- Knowledge of technical practices in order to plan, lay out, install modify, troubleshoot and repair various systems and equipment.

- Skill in using and maintaining tools and equipment such as levels, plumb bobs, various gages and meters, hydrostatic pumps, power tools, pressure testing tools and equipment, electrical test and measuring equipment, combustible and toxic gas indicators.

- This is a designated Drug Testing Position

- The work requires the employee to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid driver’s license is required for the position.

- A pre-employment physical is required. Position requires the ability to discern colors, contrast, and depth.
