To provide full performance level sheet metal mechanic, carpentry, masonry, locksmithing and sign making work in constructing, installing, maintaining, repairing, and modifying structures and items requiring close tolerance fit, structural soundness, fine finishes, and decorative effects.
The Air Force Civilian Service (AFCS) is recruiting for Full-time Maintenance Mechanic, Structures to work at 460 Civil Engineer Squadron, Operations Flight, Buckley Space Force Base, Colorado

DUTIES:
- Plans and lays out work from blueprints, sketches, drawings, specifications, and work orders in the construction and maintenance of installation facilities.
- Develops patterns, cuts, forms, joins, assembles, and installs items and systems which have combined straight and curved edges or irregular curves, angles, and planes.
- Performs masonry tasks involved in the maintenance, repair, alteration, and construction of interior and exterior surfaces and structures.
- Independently apply skilled methods, techniques, and advanced shop mathematics to construct, install, repair, and modify a wide variety of structures.
- Modifies and reworks locking devices to accomplish special security objectives designed to work in conjunction with other components and equipment to form a complete security or surveillance system.
- Makes new keys from duplications, impressions, and key codes from a variety of key blanks.
KEY REQUIREMENTS:
- The work may require the employee to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid driver's license may be required for the position.
- Shift work may be required.
- Will be required to train/guide lower graded (or other trades) military/civilian employees.
- May be required to be certified for working with and/or removing hazardous material.
- The employee may be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
- Emergency overtime may be required.
- Maintains bench stock levels of parts, materials, tools, and equipment at prescribed levels.
- Use and maintain tools appropriate for each task being completed. Informs supervisor on the need for replacement tools as needed.
- Maintains records and documents action. Initiates or annotates forms or reports, such as Operator’s Inspection Guide and Trouble Report, Temporary Issue Receipt Form, and completes daily timecard for accurate labor accounting.
- Uses plotters, vinyl cutters, printers, computer generated sign software, and a variety of hand tools to perform sign making duties as required.
- Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work environment.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES (KSA’s):
- Knowledge of carpentry and sheet metal work methods and techniques, masonry techniques when using brick, block, and stone, sign making construction and standards, and master key systems; and internal structure and operating characteristics of a wide range of makes, models, and types of common mechanical locking mechanisms and of their working interrelationship with related components comprising the locking system of the security units in which they are installed in order to select methods used in neutralizing, troubleshooting, and repairing the locking mechanisms.
- Knowledge of safety regulations, practices, and procedures and environmental standards and requirements; and regulations, procedures, and policies related to records maintenance and documentation.
- Knowledge of advanced shop mathematics to plan, compute, and lay out more complex projects.
- Skill in cutting and shaping to complete corners; constructing, installing, repairing, and modifying structures; formulating plans and templates involving straight and curved edges or irregular curves, angles, and planes; developing patterns to include geometric projection and triangulation; setting-up, operating, and maintaining a variety of precision equipment and power and hand tools/equipment; and fabricating complex items from a variety of materials, such as galvanized or stainless steel, black iron, aluminum, copper sheet, magnesium, honeycomb material, and alloys.
- Ability to inspect and evaluate structural damage to sheet metal systems sufficient to plan and accomplish repairs; produce finished products with precise fits, accurate dimensions, structural soundness, and acceptable appearance; and perform decorative brickwork through placement of brick of different colors to create various designs and patterns, and perform visual and operational checks and use dexterity and coordination between hands and eyes to remove broken keys from keyways and open standard locks.
- Ability to read and interpret complex blueprints, diagrams, sketches, and technical specifications; and communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
