Key ResponsibilitiesFinancial Management & Reporting• Prepare timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual consolidated US financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP and report results to the head office in Canada• Partner with operations and project management teams for accurate job costing and profitability analysis• Perform and maintain detailed monthly intercompany reconciliations• Manage month-end and year-end close processesBudgeting, Forecasting & Cost Control• Lead annual budgeting and monthly forecasting processes, analyzing financial performance and deliver actionable recommendations to leadership.• Monitor and analyze variances, providing recommendations to improve margins, labor efficiency, and fleet ROI.• Support pricing strategies for services, rentals, and specialty equipment.• Evaluate cost drivers such as overtime, fuel, repairs/maintenance, and seasonal staffing.Compliance & Risk Management• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations related to Department of Transportation (“DOT”), construction, and transportation.• Oversee multi-state payroll compliance, workers’ compensation reporting, and tax filings.• Manage audits (financial, workers’ comp, insurance, DOT) and maintain strong internal controls.Cash Flow & Treasury• Monitor cash flow to support payroll-intensive field operations.• Oversee customer billing, collections, and revenue recognition for both service and rental contracts.• Manage vendor relationships, and banking operations.Systems & Process Improvements• Support transition over to a new ERP system.• Help to develop standardized reporting out of the new ERP system to improve visibility and efficiency within operations.• Strengthen documentation for accounting controls, field logs, fleet tracking, and procurement.Leadership & Team Development• Lead and mentor the local accounting team.• Collaborate closely with local management, fleet managers, and operations leadership.• Drive a culture of accountability, communication, and continuous improvement.QualificationsEducation & Experience• CPA designation required with 5–10 years of progressive accounting experience, including 2-3 years in a leadership or Controller role; experience in traffic control, construction, utilities, or field services strongly preferred.• Strong technical knowledge of job costing, multi-state payroll, and internal controls• Experience with inventory management is an asset.• Experience supporting post-acquisition financial integration is an asset.Skills & Competencies• Strong analytical and critical thinking abilities.• Proficiency with ERP/accounting systems • Excellent communication skills and strong ability to collaborate effectively.• High attention to detail, integrity, and leadership capability.Working Conditions• Combination of on-site and remote role • Occasional travel across the western US and Canada for branch visits, audits, or acquisition-related activities.• Extended hours required during month-end, year-end, or acquisition cycles.Compensation & Benefits• Competitive salary based on experience.• Health, dental, vision insurance; 401(k) or retirement plan; paid time off.Professional development support, including continuing education or certification assistance.
