Position Summary
System Administrator I is an IT role responsible for supporting our enterprise systems across on-premise, hosted, and cloud environments. This position provides administration, troubleshooting, and escalation support for Windows Server, Microsoft Azure, Microsoft 365, network infrastructure, and core business systems. The role works closely with technical support staff and senior system administrator personnel to maintain reliable day-to-day operations, resolve escalated issues, and assist with system maintenance, monitoring, and documentation.
Location: On-prem at Agency HQ, Hanover, MD
Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:30am – 5pm
Key Responsibilities
- Administer and support Windows Server environments including deployment, patching, troubleshooting, and performance monitoring
- Support Active Directory, Entra ID, Group Policy, Intune, and user account administration
- Assist with Microsoft Azure administration tasks including managing virtual machines, storage, networking, identity-related tasks, and other services
- Administer Microsoft 365 services including Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive
- Manage incidents, requests, and escalations through Jira Service Management
- Perform basic network troubleshooting across LAN, WAN, VPN, switching, and firewall environments
- Assist with support of HAProxy, Palo Alto, SonicWall, PFSense, and HP switch infrastructure
- Monitor systems, apply patches, document procedures, and support routine maintenance and operational health checks
- Maintain physical hardware and virtual server inventory across AIC sites
- Provide basic operational support for Kubernetes-hosted services and escalate platform issues as needed
- Act as a backup to the technical support team for first-line issues on an as-needed basis
- Participate in an on-call rotation and provide after-hours critical system support as needed
Qualifications
Required:
- Working knowledge of Windows Server administration in an enterprise environment
- Familiarity with Active Directory, Entra ID, Group Policy, DNS, Intune, and Microsoft 365 services
- Basic understanding of Azure cloud services and administration
- Basic understanding of TCP/IP, switching, routing, firewalls, and VPNs
- Experience with an ITSM platform such as Jira Service Management
- Strong troubleshooting, documentation, and organizational skills
- Ability to prioritize work, manage escalations, and collaborate across teams
Preferred:
- Hands-on experience with Azure, Windows Desktop and Server operating systems, Microsoft SQL, Microsoft 365, Palo Alto devices, SonicWall devices, HAProxy, VMware, or Kubernetes
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in related field of study or equivalent experience and training
- 1 year of experience in systems administration, infrastructure support, or related IT operations or 2 to 4 years of progressively responsible technical support experience
Salary : $65,000 - $75,000
