Purpose:
The Fabrication Shop Foreman oversees and coordinates the daily operations within the fabrication shop, ensuring the timely sand efficient production of high-quality metal components. This role is responsible for supervising fabricators, welders, painters and other shop personnel, ensuring adherence to safety standards, quality specifications, and project timelines. The Fabrication Shop Foreman plays a vital role in improving shop processes and maintaining a productive and organized environment.
Responsibilities:
Team Leadership & Supervision – Leads and supervises a team of fabricators, welders, painters, and shop personnel to ensure high performance and job satisfaction, assigns tasks and prioritizes workloads based on project needs and deadlines, provides hands-on guidance and training to team members to enhance their skills and productivity, ensures the team is adhering to safety protocols and quality standards, and conducts performance evaluations and provides constructive feedback to team members.
Production Management – Oversees the fabrication of metal components, ensuring that work is completed on schedule, within budget, and according to specifications, monitors work progress and quality at each stage of fabrication, troubleshoots and resolves production issues quickly to avoid delays, collaborates with Project Managers to review project specifications and ensures proper allocation of resources and materials, ensures the fabrication team has the necessary tools and materials to complete their tasks efficiently
Safety & Compliance – Enforce all safety policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with OSHA, EPA, and Company safety standards, conduct regular safety meetings and inspections to ensure the shop environment is safe for all employees, address safety concerns immediately and provide appropriate training to mitigate risks, maintain up to date knowledge of safety standards and regulations.
Quality Control – Monitors and inspects the quality of fabricated materials to ensure they meet project specifications, implement quality control procedures to minimize defects and ensures finished products meet required standards, oversees the final inspection process before shipping or delivery, ensuring all products are free from defects and meet client expectations, coordinates any rework or corrective actions if necessary.
Resource & Equipment Management – Ensures proper maintenance and upkeep of all equipment and tools used in the fabrication process, ensures materials are stored and handled correctly to avoid damage or waste, tracks inventory of materials and equipment, placing orders as needed to maintain stock levels, works with procurement to ensure the timely acquisition of materials for upcoming projects.
Continuous Improvement – Collaborates with management to identify areas for improvement in fabrication processes and shop operations, implements best practices and suggests process improvements to enhance efficiency, reduces waste, and improves product quality, fosters a culture of innovation and continuous improvement within the fabrication team.
Other – Other duties, roles and responsibilities as assigned.
Knowledge & Skills:
Extensive knowledge of fabrication processes, materials, welding and finishing techniques.
Strong leadership and supervisor skills, with the ability to motivate and manage a diverse team.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
In-depth understanding od safety procedures and regulations in a fabrication environment.
Ability to troubleshoot and resolve production issues in a timely manner.
Proficient in the use of fabrication tools and equipment, including welding machines, cutting tools and cranes.
Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment with fluctuating priorities and deadlines with excellent problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand, walk, bend for long periods of time.
Ability to lift up to fifty (50) pounds regularly, with occasional heavy lifting required.
Ability to work in a noisy, fast paced environment with exposure to welding fumes, dust, and other hazards (PPE required).
Ability to use hand tools and power tools / equipment for extended periods of time.
Comfortable working in variable temperatures based on the fabrication environment.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
Minimum three (3) years’ experience in metal fabrication or a related field.
Proven experience in a supervisory role within a fabrication or manufacturing environment.
Strong knowledge of welding, cutting, and finishing techniques.
Certification in welding or other relevant fabrication techniques is a plus.
Forklift or overhead crane certification is preferred.
Strong communication skills and the ability to work with others in a team environment.
