Fabricator

Purpose:

The Welder/Fabricator is responsible for constructing, assembling, and repairing metal and other components according to blueprints, technical drawings, and project specifications. Working primarily in a shop setting, the Welder/Fabricator ensures the production of high-quality parts and assemblies to support offsite installation and client projects.

Responsibilities:

Blueprint Interpretation & Execution – Reads and interprets blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings to fabricate components to exact specifications.

Material Preparation & Assembly – Measures, cuts, bends, and shapes metal and other materials using hand tools, power tools, and machinery such as saws, grinders, presses, plasma cutters, brakes, punches as well as welding equipment. Assemble components accurately, ensuring structural integrity and adherence to project requirements.

Welding, Joining & Pipefitting – Performs various welding techniques (MIG, TIG, stick, etc.) to join materials with precision and durability, materials might include steel, aluminum, 304, 316 and 2205 stainless steel, pipefitting.

Equipment Maintenance & Operation –Operates fabrication machinery and tools, while performing routine maintenance to ensure optimal functionality and safety.

Quality Assurance –Inspects finished products for defects or deviations, ensuring compliance with quality standards and client specifications.

Safety Compliance –Follows all Company and industry safety protocols, including proper use of PPE, maintaining a clean workspace, and adhering to lockout/tagout procedures.

Collaboration & Communication –Works closely with supervisors, engineers, and team members to resolve issues, implement changes, and meet project deadlines.

Other – Other duties, roles and responsibilities as assigned.

Knowledge & Skills:

Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints and technical drawings.

Skilled in using hand tools, power tools and fabrication machinery.

Expertise in welding techniques (MIG, TIG, stick) and material joining.

Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and craftsmanship.

Basic mathematical skills for precise measurements and calculations.

Physical stamina and manual dexterity for extended periods of hands-on work.

Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment with fluctuating priorities and deadlines with excellent problem solving and troubleshooting skills.

Physical Requirements:

Frequent standing, bending, squatting, and reaching.

Exposure to noise, heat, sparks, metal, and fumes in a shop environment.

Must wear PPE, including safety glasses, gloves, steel-toed boots, etc.

Capacity to lift, carry or transport materials and equipment fifty (50) pounds or more, regularly.

Qualifications:

High School diploma or equivalent.

2 years of experience in metal fabrication, welding or a related field.

Familiarity with fabrication machinery and equipment.

Experience with exotic metals or custom projects helpful.

Trade School Certification or formal apprenticeship in metal fabrication or welding, AWS (American Welding Society) certification, preferred.
