Addison Group is partnering with a growing construction organization in the Sterling, VA area to identify an Assistant Controller. This is a newly created leadership role due to company growth and is an excellent opportunity for a senior-level accounting professional, ideally with a background in the construction industry, who enjoys leading teams, improving processes, and driving project-based financial performance in a fast-paced environment.
This role will oversee operational accounting for designated business units and manage a team of 4–7 professionals, including regional controllers, senior accountants, and cost accountants. The position will play a key role in revenue recognition, billing analysis, project risk review, team development, and continuous process improvement across the accounting function.

Key Responsibilities
- Oversee operations accounting for assigned business units and provide leadership to a team of accounting professionals
- Manage revenue and margin recognition, over/under billing analysis, and budget-to-actual project reviews
- Identify project-level financial risks and develop mitigation strategies, escalating major concerns and opportunities to senior leadership
- Lead weekly check-ins with staff focused on technical development, performance, and career progression
- Participate in hiring, onboarding, and ongoing development of the accounting team
- Monitor workload distribution and conduct timely performance reviews
- Support process improvement initiatives related to project accounting, reporting accuracy, and operational efficiency
- Provide oversight and guidance related to cost accounting, payroll support, and construction accounting practices
- Collaborate cross-functionally with leadership and finance teams to support business growth and operational performance
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required
- 7 years of progressive accounting experience required
- 7 years of management experience required
- Prior experience leading teams of accounting professionals in a complex environment
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and ASC 606 required
- Experience with project accounting, operational accounting, and general ledger oversight
- Construction industry experience strongly preferred
- Experience coming from a larger-scale organization or complex business environment highly preferred
- Oracle Fusion or similar ERP experience preferred
- CPA or CCIFP preferred
- Strong leadership, problem-solving, and process improvement skills
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities effectively
