Job Title: Survey Party Chief

Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Survey Party Chief to join a dynamic team providing civil engineering, land planning, surveying, urban design, and development consulting services both nationally and internationally. This role involves operating as part of a two-person crew, with the ability to manage tasks independently as a one-person crew when required. The Survey Party Chief will report daily to the Reston office before heading out to various sites in DC and VA.

Responsibilities

• Follow safety regulations meticulously at all times.
• Ensure daily instrument care and maintenance.
• Obtain accurate field locations and apply correct coding for 'field to finish' mapping products.
• Perform construction stakeouts effectively.
• Maintain clear and concise field notes and record daily activities accurately.

Essential Skills

• 2-5 years of experience in land surveying, ideally as a Survey Party Chief.
• Proficiency with land surveying equipment such as Leica, Total Station, and Topcon.
• Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
• Experience in construction stakeouts, surveying, AutoCAD, topography, and GPS.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• High school diploma is required.
• Ability to operate as a one-man crew when needed.
• Successful completion of a 5-panel drug test and driving check.
• Strong communication skills.
• Proven knowledge of Topcon survey equipment and software, including GPS/RTK Robotics, Total Stations, Levels, and Data Collectors.
• Ability to operate scanning equipment is a plus.

Work Environment

The work environment includes construction sites in all weather conditions, primarily in the DC area. Expect to work in small spaces with limited parking during commercial renovation projects. The fieldwork is fast-paced and deadline-intensive, while the office environment is quiet with active involvement from the owners. The position offers a 4-day workweek with 10-hour shifts, providing a 3-day weekend. Options to report directly to the site or pick up company vehicle and equipment from the Reston, VA office are available.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $40.00/hr.
