Job Title: Quality Control Technician
Job Description
Support production with food safety and quality by guiding and coaching employees on GMP, HACCP, food safety, and food quality standards. Engage in process auditory meetings and manage vendor complaints. Oversee and contain non-conforming products while maintaining and improving HACCP and production records. Calibrate equipment to ensure food safety and product quality, conduct sensory evaluations, and perform swab testing on production surfaces. Implement USDA, FDA, and relevant international regulatory and customer compliance requirements. Participate in internal quality audits and inspect labels and packaging. Contribute to long-term project improvement work.
Responsibilities
- Support production with food safety and quality-related tasks.
- Coach employees on GMP, HACCP, food safety, and quality standards.
- Participate in process auditory meetings.
- File and follow up on vendor complaints.
- Manage and contain non-conforming products.
- Maintain and improve HACCP and production records.
- Calibrate equipment to ensure food safety and product quality.
- Conduct sensory evaluation of products and ingredients.
- Perform swab testing on production surfaces for APC, Charm, EB.
- Implement USDA, FDA, and relevant international compliance requirements.
- Participate in internal quality audits.
- Inspect labels and packaging.
- Complete long-term project improvement work.
Essential Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Chemistry, Biology, or related science. No prior experience required!
- Knowledge of food safety programs such as HACCP and GMP is plus.
- Strong communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, database systems, email, and internet.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize work.
- Strong root-cause analysis skills.
- Detail-oriented and deadline-focused.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Previous experience as a Quality Technician is a plus.
- Internship or experience in Food Manufacturing is preferred.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus.
- Interest in food, prior restaurant experience, or food handling is beneficial.
- Must be able to taste food - no allergies.
Work Environment
The role is divided equally between production and quality office environments. Work hours are Monday to Thursday, 7 AM to 5:30 PM, with potential for overtime as needed. The position may require work in cold room environments.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Sycamore, IL.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $24.00 - $24.00/hr.
