Opto-Mechanical Engineer

Join our innovative team to design, develop, and enhance free space optical LASER communication systems. Your work will involve optimizing opto-mechanical layouts, designing optical mounts, and prototyping designs for lab testing. This role offers an opportunity to lead technical discussions and developments, ensuring the successful delivery of high-performance optical modules to space.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and improve free space optical LASER communication systems.
• Enhance and optimize opto-mechanical layouts and design optical mounts.
• Prototype designs for lab testing and create drawings for flight.
• Serve as the primary technical interface to the development team, leading technical discussions during design reviews and escalations.
• Support the operations team by resolving technical challenges and facilitating quality containments.
• Own the capacity increase roadmap for production, including defining necessary capital equipment and leading its design, procurement, installation, and qualification.

• 5 years of experience as an opto-mechanical design engineer.
• Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Physics, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
• Demonstrated experience in space systems, free space optical systems, and precision mechanisms.
• Proficiency in electronics packaging, new product introduction (NPI), CAD (NX preferred), drawing with GD&T, and design for manufacturability (DFM).

• 8 years of experience as an opto-mechanical design engineer is preferred.
• Experience designing LASER optical communication systems for space applications and precision space mechanisms.
• Experience building optical systems in lab/100k clean room environments.
• Experience with composites and designing for composite structures.
• Experience with designing for athermalization.

This role requires working onsite in Northridge, CA, five days a week. You will be part of a dynamic team of optomechanical, thermal, structural analysis, and manufacturing engineers, tackling complex technical challenges and ensuring smooth production operations.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Los Angeles, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $70.00 - $90.00/hr.
