Location: Northridge, CA (On-site)
Salary: Starting at $130,000 per year, DOE

About the Role
We are seeking a skilled Opto-Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the design, development, and optimization of advanced optical and mechatronic systems used in aerospace applications. You’ll collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to deliver precision optical assemblies for high-performance environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Conceptualize, design, and improve free-space optical laser communication systems
- Develop and optimize opto-mechanical layouts for manufacturability and performance
- Design precision optical mounts and mechanisms
- Build and test prototypes in lab or cleanroom settings
- Create engineering drawings using GD&T for flight-ready hardware
- Act as the technical liaison between design, manufacturing, and production teams
- Support new product introduction and continuous improvement efforts
- Lead scaling initiatives to enhance production throughput and quality
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications
- 5 years of experience as an Opto-Mechanical Design Engineer
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Physics, or related discipline
- Hands-on experience in:
- Space systems, free-space optics, or precision mechanisms
- CAD modeling (NX / TeamCenter preferred)
- Electronics packaging and design for manufacturability
- Creating technical drawings using GD&T
Preferred Qualifications
- 7 years of experience in opto-mechanical design
- Experience designing laser communication systems for aerospace or space applications
- Experience with precision mechanisms, composite structures, and athermal design
- Lab or cleanroom experience assembling optical systems
- Strong analytical and collaboration skills across engineering functions
