Job Title: Heavy Civil Construction Estimator
Role Overview:
We are seeking a highly experienced and detail-oriented Estimator to lead the estimating efforts for complex heavy civil construction projects including highways, bridges, site development, utilities, and infrastructure. This role is responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates, analyzing project risks, and collaborating with project managers, engineers, and subcontractors to ensure competitive and profitable bids. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in civil construction and a deep understanding of estimating software and methodologies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the preparation of detailed cost estimates for heavy civil projects from conceptual design through final bid.
- Analyze drawings, specifications, and other documentation to prepare comprehensive quantity take-offs.
- Develop and maintain relationships with subcontractors and suppliers to obtain competitive pricing.
- Evaluate project risks and opportunities and incorporate them into the estimate.
- Collaborate with project teams to develop construction schedules and phasing plans.
- Participate in bid reviews and presentations to leadership.
- Maintain historical cost data and update unit pricing databases.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
Essential Skills & Competencies:
- Expertise in heavy civil construction including earthwork, concrete, utilities, and structural components.
- Proficiency in estimating software such as HCSS HeavyBid, Agtek, or similar platforms.
- Strong analytical and mathematical skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
- Strong negotiation and vendor management skills.
- Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple deadlines.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (preferred).
- Minimum 7–10 years of experience in heavy civil construction estimating.
- Proven track record of successful bid preparation and project award.
- Familiarity with MassDOT and other public agency bidding procedures is a plus.
- OSHA 30 certification or willingness to obtain.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $88.00 - $90.00/hr.
