This role focuses on delivering accurate, well-documented cost estimates that support preconstruction and business development efforts for complex facilities such as manufacturing plants, process facilities, power projects, and heavy infrastructure. The position requires deep technical expertise in industrial electrical systems, strong analytical skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with project management, engineering, and operations teams.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the preparation of comprehensive electrical cost estimates for industrial construction projects from conceptual design through final bid phases.
  • Review and interpret plans, specifications, schedules, and contract documents to fully understand project scope, requirements, and potential risks.
  • Perform or oversee detailed quantity take-offs for materials, equipment, and labor, including power distribution, switchgear, motor controls, instrumentation, controls, and low-voltage systems.
  • Develop pricing strategies that account for labor productivity, material escalation, equipment costs, indirect costs, overhead, and project-specific risk factors.
  • Solicit, evaluate, and level vendor and subcontractor proposals to ensure complete scope coverage and competitive pricing.
  • Identify scope gaps, conflicts, and assumptions, and develop clear clarifications, inclusions, and exclusions to accompany bid submissions.
  • Prepare and submit complete, professional bid packages within required deadlines and in accordance with client and project requirements.
  • Collaborate closely with project management, engineering, and operations teams on constructability reviews, value engineering opportunities, and execution planning.
  • Attend and actively participate in pre-bid meetings, site walks, and scope review meetings to validate assumptions and refine estimates.
  • Maintain and contribute to historical cost databases, labor models, and estimating standards to improve accuracy and consistency of future estimates.
  • Support project handoff by clearly communicating scope, pricing assumptions, and identified risk items to operations and project delivery teams.
  • Mentor junior estimators and contribute to the continuous improvement of estimating processes, tools, and best practices.
Essential Skills
  • At least 7 years of experience in electrical estimating, with significant experience in industrial or heavy commercial construction.
  • Strong technical knowledge of industrial electrical systems, including power distribution, process electrical, controls, and instrumentation.
  • Thorough understanding of NEC requirements and industrial electrical installation methods.
  • Proven experience estimating complex industrial projects such as manufacturing plants, process facilities, power projects, or heavy infrastructure.
  • Proficiency with electrical estimating software such as Accubid, McCormick, EstMEP, or similar tools.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills for data analysis, cost modeling, and bid preparation.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and analyze complex construction and electrical drawings and specifications.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills with a high level of attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple bids simultaneously and meet strict deadlines.
  • Clear and professional communication skills for effective collaboration with internal teams and external partners.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Background in industrial construction environments, including exposure to manufacturing plants, process facilities, power, or heavy infrastructure projects.
  • Experience using and maintaining estimating software databases and labor models.
  • Demonstrated ability to participate in value engineering and constructability reviews.
  • Experience mentoring or guiding junior estimators within an estimating team.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to identify and manage project risks during the preconstruction phase.

Work involves extensive use of electrical estimating software such as Accubid, McCormick, or EstMEP, along with advanced use of Microsoft Excel and other standard office applications.
