Job Title: Electrical Engineer – Laser & Medical Devices (Contract)
Overview
The Systems Engineer will support the design, integration, testing, and validation of laser-based systems used in medical device applications. This role focuses on final system integration, controls software, hardware troubleshooting, and documentation to support customer-site installation and regulatory compliance. The position is fully onsite and contract-based.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain laser-based systems for medical device applications.
- Lead system integration and final completion of hardware and embedded software to meet customer safety and performance requirements.
- Develop prototypes and process improvements with a focus on transitioning designs to production.
- Analyze, troubleshoot, and optimize existing hardware configurations.
- Learn and apply G-Code and DMC software for motion control and automation systems.
- Perform system-level testing, validation, and optimization prior to customer deployment.
- Prepare and maintain engineering documentation, including system requirements, design specifications, test readiness reviews (TRRs), and acceptance testing reports.
- Ensure compliance with ISO 13485, FDA software validation, and IEC 62304 medical device software lifecycle standards.
- Stay current with relevant technologies and make recommendations for future system enhancements.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate sensors, actuators, embedded firmware, and communication interfaces.
Required Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years of systems engineering experience in medical devices or other regulated industries.
- Hands-on experience with embedded systems development (C/C and Python).
- Technical Skills:
- PCB design and hardware integration.
- Experience with microcontrollers, RTOS, and communication protocols (UART, SPI, I2C).
- Strong understanding of regulated development environments and design controls.
Work Environment
- Fully onsite, 5 days per week.
- Work closely with the R&D Engineering team, including direct collaboration with leadership.
This is a Contract position based out of Halethorpe, MD.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $55.00 - $58.00/hr.
