Job Summary:
Access Medical Labs is seeking a detail-oriented and reliable Specimen Processing Technician to join our growing team. This position plays a critical role in supporting the diagnostic testing process by ensuring that all patient specimens are received, verified, and prepared accurately for analysis. You will work in a fast-paced laboratory environment and must be comfortable handling biohazardous materials in accordance with strict safety and quality standards.
Job Responsibilities:
· Specimen Receipt & Verification
Receive incoming patient specimens and verify accuracy of accompanying documentation. Ensure all required identifiers, labeling, specimen integrity, and volume meet laboratory standards.
· Specimen Handling & Sorting
Accurately sort, label, and prioritize specimens according to testing protocols. Prepare specimens for processing by designated instrumentation. Specimen reviewer is also responsible to transport reviewed specimens to the Core Lab for processing
· Quality Control Checks
Proactively identify and escalate any discrepancies or issues related to labeling, volume, integrity, or patient identifiers. Ensure all pre-analytical requirements are met prior to analysis.
· Process Adherence & Documentation
Follow all established laboratory protocols and standard operating procedures (SOPs) consistently and accurately. Maintain thorough documentation of specimen handling activities as required.
· Safety & Compliance
Handle all specimens and reagents in a manner consistent with OSHA safety standards and laboratory best practices. Utilize proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and adhere to all biohazard handling, HIPAA compliance, and infection control procedures.
· Communication & Collaboration
Communicate effectively with laboratory staff, couriers, and management to resolve issues and ensure timely specimen processing. Collaborate with other departments to support efficient workflow and high-quality patient care.
· Adaptability & Accountability
Maintain flexibility in adjusting to shifting priorities and workflows. Work efficiently under pressure and meet critical deadlines in a time-sensitive environment.
Qualifications & Skills:
· High School Diploma or GED required.
· Previous experience working in a diagnostic or clinical laboratory environment preferred.
· Familiarity with laboratory safety standards, HIPAA compliance, and biohazard handling is highly desirable.
· Intermediate computer proficiency required, including experience with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
· Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
· Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
· Must be comfortable working in a regulated, deadline-driven environment.
