Core Responsibilities
Technology Strategy & Leadership
- Define and execute a 3-5 year technology roadmap aligned with Access Lab's growth, operational scale, and at-home testing expansion.
- Serve as a key executive partner to the CEO and leadership team on technology investment, risk, and innovation.
- Translate business goals into scalable, secure, compliant technical solutions.
- Build credibility across clinical, operational, and commercial teams.
- Own and optimize the Comtron LIS ecosystem, including:
- Workflow configuration
- Interfaces and integrations
- Data quality and uptime
- Performance at scale
- Lead integration between Comtron LIS and:
- In-house operations systems
- Client portals
- At-home testing workflows
- Billing, reporting, and logistics systems
- Evaluate when to extend, refactor, or replace components to reduce technical debt.
- Lead and mature internal engineering teams responsible for:
- Custom operational platforms
- Order management
- Client-facing tools
- Reporting & analytics
- Establish best practices for:
- Software architecture
- Documentation
- QA/testing
- CI/CD and deployment
- Ensure systems are resilient, observable, and scalable.
- Architect and oversee technology supporting:
- Kit ordering & fulfillment
- Patient onboarding & identity verification
- Sample tracking & chain of custody
- Results delivery (patient & provider)
- Integration with third-party logistics and telehealth partners
- Ensure a consumer-grade user experience while maintaining clinical and regulatory rigor.
- Own enterprise technology compliance including:
- HIPAA
- CLIA
- SOC readiness / cybersecurity frameworks
- Implement strong data governance, access controls, encryption, and auditability.
- Lead incident response planning and disaster recovery strategy.
- Partner with Compliance and Legal to proactively mitigate technology risk.
- Establish a unified data strategy across:
- LIS data
- Operations
- Finance
- Client & account analytics
- Enable real-time visibility into:
- Turnaround times
- Capacity utilization
- Error rates
- Client performance
- Support advanced analytics, automation, and AI initiatives where appropriate.
- Manage technology vendors, consultants, and integration partners.
- Negotiate contracts and SLAs with an emphasis on uptime, security, and scalability.
- Evaluate build vs. buy decisions for emerging needs.
- Recruit, mentor, and retain top technology talent.
- Build a culture of ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Establish clear KPIs and performance metrics for the technology organization.
Required Experience
- 10 years in technology leadership roles, including senior or executive-level ownership.
- Significant experience in healthcare, diagnostics, laboratory medicine, or regulated clinical environments.
- Proven success scaling technology for high-volume, mission-critical operations.
- Hands-on experience with:
- LIS platforms
- Systems integrations (HL7, APIs, ETL pipelines)
- Custom-built operational systems
- Experience supporting nationwide client bases and multi-state operations.
- Experience launching or scaling at-home / direct-to-consumer programs.
- Familiarity with logistics, sample tracking, and fulfillment systems.
- Experience modernizing legacy systems without disrupting operations.
- Background working in fast-growing, mid-sized organizations (100-500 employees).
