About the Role
As a Marine Structural Welder, you will play a vital role in the fabrication and assembly of high-performance vessels. You will utilize your expertise in various welding processes to ensure the structural integrity of hulls, superstructures, and critical marine components, contributing directly to the successful launch of sophisticated maritime projects.
Responsibilities- Execute high-quality welds on panels, modules, and complex assemblies, ensuring all joints meet rigorous structural standards.
- Perform versatile welding techniques including fillet, butt, and mitered joints across flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions.
- Utilize MIG, stick, and flux-cored arc welding processes to fabricate and repair marine-grade steel, aluminum, and copper-nickel alloys.
- Prepare metal surfaces through grinding, cutting, and beveling to ensure optimal weld penetration and structural soundness.
- Operate air arc gouging equipment to effectively remove defects and prepare joints for final welding.
- Maintain a safe and efficient workspace by adhering to shipyard safety protocols, including proper ventilation and confined space entry procedures.
- Collaborate with production teams to interpret blueprints and layout weld patterns, ensuring precision in every component.
- Mentor junior team members by sharing technical knowledge and best practices in marine fabrication.
Required Skills
- 3 years of professional welding experience, ideally within a shipyard or heavy industrial environment.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting complex blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications.
- Current or obtainable ABS/USCG certifications (2G, 3G, 4G) in steel or aluminum.
- Ability to work in confined spaces, at heights, and in physically demanding positions.
- Strong understanding of metallurgy and welding equipment maintenance.
Preferred Skills
- Advanced certifications (6G) in stainless steel, aluminum, or copper-nickel alloys.
- Experience with specialized equipment such as manlifts or forklifts.
- Prior training or certification in OSHA 10 or Shipyard Competent Person standards.
- Familiarity with non-destructive testing methods like ultrasound.
- Aptitude for leadership and interest in guiding crew operations.
