Overview
- Locum tenens coverage for a broad-spectrum rural community general surgery practice with heavy endoscopy volume.
- Duties include office, inpatient, operative, endoscopic, and on-call coverage.
- Clinical support available from an experienced Medical Assistant.
Clinical Responsibilities
- Evaluate and manage new and established general surgery patients of all ages.
- Perform office consultations, minor procedures, and patient education.
- Provide operative and endoscopic care in elective and emergency settings.
- Coordinate care with primary care providers and arrange referrals to tertiary centers as needed.
- Manage common surgical conditions including hernias, gallbladder disease, GERD, colon polyps, rectal bleeding, hemorrhoids, diverticulitis, breast conditions, dysphagia, and skin/soft tissue masses.
Required Procedures / Skills
- Colonoscopy: screening, surveillance, diagnostic, and therapeutic (active practice required).
- Esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD).
- Open and laparoscopic general surgery, including:
- Cholecystectomy
- Appendectomy
- Hernia repair
- Colon surgery
- Breast surgery and biopsies
- Hemorrhoid procedures
- Skin and soft tissue excisions
- PEG tube placement
- Debridement and wound procedures
- Additional procedures typical of rural general surgery practice.
Minimum Qualifications
- Board Certified or Board Eligible in General Surgery.
- Active New Hampshire medical license or ability to obtain licensure.
- Actively performing endoscopy.
- Within the past 12 months: minimum 100 colonoscopies (including ≥20 polypectomies) and minimum 25 EGDs.
