We are seeking an experienced Agriculture Educator to engage with local farmers, landowners, and underserved producers to promote sustainable agricultural practices, land use planning, and community development. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in agricultural education, rural studies, or community development, with a passion for outreach and education. This role involves designing and delivering educational programs, interpreting land use and zoning policies, and fostering collaboration within the community.
Key Responsibilities:
Engage directly with farmers, landowners, and underserved producers to assess needs and deliver relevant educational resources.
Develop and implement outreach strategies, including workshops, field demonstrations, and digital content, to share best practices in agriculture and land management.
Provide guidance on land use planning, zoning regulations, and sustainable farming techniques.
Collaborate with local agencies, nonprofits, and agricultural organizations to strengthen community partnerships.
Evaluate program effectiveness and adapt outreach methods to meet stakeholder needs.
Support grant writing and reporting for extension and community development initiatives.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Education, Rural Studies, Community Development, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
5 years of experience leading outreach and education initiatives, preferably within Extension or land-grant university systems.
Familiarity with Prince William County or similar rural/agricultural communities.
Strong communication and facilitation skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences.
Knowledge of land use policies, zoning laws, and sustainable agriculture practices.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a community-based setting.
Preferred Skills:
Experience working with underserved or minority farming communities.
Grant management and fundraising experience.
Proficiency in bilingual outreach (Spanish or other locally relevant languages).
