Position Summary
The Patient Care Coordinator / Referral Coordinator is responsible for providing administrative support for an outpatient Cardiology clinic with a primary focus on processing referrals and insurance authorizations. This role works closely with cardiology providers, clinical staff, and insurance carriers to ensure timely coordination of referrals, procedures, and patient services.
This is a fully administrative role with no face-to-face patient interaction. Communication with patients will occur primarily via phone, email, and electronic systems. The ideal candidate will have strong referral and authorization experience, excellent customer service skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Process incoming referrals for outpatient cardiology services, procedures, and surgeries.
- Submit and track insurance authorizations accurately and efficiently.
- Coordinate with providers, clinical staff, and insurance companies regarding referral status and approvals.
- Communicate with patients via phone and email regarding referrals, scheduling, and insurance updates.
- Maintain accurate documentation within EMR systems.
- Ensure timely follow-up on pending authorizations and referral requests.
- Handle confidential patient information with professionalism and discretion.
- Support daily administrative operations within the cardiology department.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 1 year of experience in a medical or healthcare setting.
- Minimum 2 years of customer service experience.
- Experience processing insurance authorizations is required.
- Experience processing medical referrals is required.
- Strong communication, organizational, and multitasking skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced administrative healthcare environment.
- Experience handling confidential information with discretion.
Preferred Qualifications
- Electronic Medical Records (EMR) experience.
- Prior cardiology or specialty clinic experience preferred.
