Hotel Engineer / Maintenance Technician
Department: Engineering / Maintenance Reports To: Chief Engineer / General Manager
Job Summary
The Hotel Engineer is responsible for maintaining the hotel’s physical infrastructure and ensuring all systems operate efficiently and safely. This includes performing preventive maintenance, responding to guest service requests, and troubleshooting issues related to HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems.
Key Responsibilities
General Maintenance & Repairs
- Perform routine inspections and repairs of guest rooms, public areas, and back-of-house spaces
- Troubleshoot and fix issues with HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems
- Respond promptly to maintenance requests from guests and staff
- Maintain and repair hotel equipment including laundry machines, kitchen appliances, and elevators
Preventive Maintenance
- Conduct scheduled preventive maintenance on all hotel systems and equipment
- Maintain logs and records of maintenance activities and inspections
- Ensure compliance with safety and health regulations
Emergency Response
- Act swiftly to resolve emergency issues such as power outages, water leaks, or equipment failures
- Monitor fire alarm systems and emergency lighting
- Assist in evacuation procedures and safety drills when necessary
Inventory & Supplies
- Manage inventory of tools, spare parts, and maintenance supplies
- Coordinate with vendors for specialized repairs or equipment replacement
- Maintain organized storage areas and ensure proper labeling of parts
Collaboration & Communication
- Work closely with housekeeping, front desk, and other departments to ensure guest satisfaction
- Train junior maintenance staff on safety protocols and repair procedures
- Communicate effectively with management regarding maintenance needs and updates
Qualifications & Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification in HVAC, plumbing, or electrical preferred
- Minimum 2–3 years of experience in hotel or facility maintenance
- Strong knowledge of building systems and repair techniques
- Ability to read blueprints and technical manuals
- Excellent problem-solving and time-management skills
- Physical stamina to lift heavy equipment and work in various conditions
