JOB DESCRIPTION
The Certified Recovery Mentor is responsible for providing peer mentoring services to clients ages 18-35, building and supporting community, and supporting the needs of the community center during open hours as needed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Client Engagement (30%)
- Effectively facilitate multiple clients’ services in private and group engagement settings.
- Organize and/or support activities that encourage participation of clients. Provide individualized support to clients during engagement as needed, including emotional or pro-social coaching, managing distress, navigating tools and resources, and more.
- Perform outreach to community partners as needed to engage new clients.
- Monitor behaviors of visitors to the center or client groups on an outing and react appropriately, including de-escalating heightened situations, responding to threats to safety and security, and taking other actions as needed.
Service Delivery (30%)
- Support clients in developing and increasing their recovery capital, including social relationships, establishing connections with appropriate resources, building family relationships, and more.
- Support clients in navigating internal or external services, systems and resources that support their recovery.
- Use a variety of communication techniques, including motivational interviewing, to support clients in developing and achieving individual goals.
- Help clients develop an individual recovery identity.
- Utilize harm reduction strategies to help clients improve their overall wellness.
- Manage client caseloads effectively and equitably.
- Provide services to clients professionally, ethically, and within 4D Recovery best practices.
- Communicate effectively with team members to ensure appropriate services are being provided to all clients.
- Report any incidents immediately to leadership to ensure immediate responses.
Community Center Support (20%)
- Welcome and engage community center consumers.
- Acquire adequate supplies and equipment needed for program events and activities.
- Complete opening and closing duties including locking and unlocking, cleaning, and organizing.
- Manage community center meeting and event schedules and payment tracking system.
- Regularly staff the community center individually or as a team.
- Identify and inform the manager of maintenance or structural damages at the community center.
- Monitor behaviors of visitors to the center and react appropriately, including de-escalating heightened situations, responding to threats to safety and security, and taking other actions as needed.
- Documentation (20%)
- Responsible for documenting all client service activities within the required time 24 hours.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Attend supervision, team, and agency meetings as directed.
- Assist with other recovery support services as directed.
- This position may require handling and disposal of needles as part of clean-up duties, necessitating adherence to proper safety protocols to mitigate potential risks and ensure a safe working environment.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
JOB/BEHAVIORAL COMPETENCIES
- Skilled with Conflict Management. You must possess basic essential skills related to de-escalation and conflict resolution. With a community center open to all individuals who want a safe environment, this position requires managing and overseeing all interactions between clients/community members and navigating conflict in a safe and restorative manner.
- Service. You must support an organizational culture that reflects the value placed on high quality client services and inter-departmental collaboration. This requires managing and maintaining excellent professionalism and ethical boundaries.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- This position typically requires a High School Diploma/GED.
- At least two years of continuous abstinence from all forms of drugs and alcohol, except those prescribed by a doctor (excluding marijuana based on federal laws). Two years of recovery is required per MHACBO specifications.
- This position typically requires reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license for state of residency and a driving record permitting coverage under the corporate liability policy. If driving a personal vehicle for work purposes, must also have and maintain personal auto liability coverage and complete a vehicle safety inspection. All employees driving for work purposes, regardless of whether driving a personal or agency vehicle, must complete the agency’s driving approval process before they drive for work.
- Must be a Certified Recovery Mentor via MHACBO or be eligible to achieve the certification within three months of hire.
- Lived experience related to the population being served.
- Understanding of multiple pathways to recovery and recovery support services.
- Ability to work independently and on a team.
- Able to establish and maintain professional boundaries while providing supportive services and building trusting relationships with clients, staff and community partners.
- Excellent communication, trauma-informed approach and conflict resolution skills.
- Well-developed documentation skills and a strong commitment to quality management; ability to write accurate and concise reports while meeting tight deadlines.
- Functional ability with Google Suite programs including: GMail, GDrive, GCalendar, GDocs, etc.
- Must be dependable, flexible and punctual, and exhibit strong time management skills.
- Able to communicate clearly, concisely, and effectively both orally and in writing. Able to clearly articulate information to people of varying cultural, linguistic, and educational backgrounds.
- Able to problem solve and develop creative approaches.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- At least two years experience working with minority communities and knowledge of the current disparities that certain communities of service users may face more broadly in society.
- Familiarity with QPR and crisis intervention.
JOB DETAILS
Pay: $23.00 - $24.00 per hour, Full-time
Schedule: Flexible schedule, to be determined with supervisor and caseload. Requires some evenings and weekends.
