Job Summary The Planning Manager will play a key role in supporting a major retail account by driving accurate demand forecasts, optimizing inventory levels, and contributing to overall business performance. This role partners closely with merchandising, sales, and cross-functional teams to identify growth opportunities, support inventory strategies, and maintain strong in-stock performance. The ideal candidate combines analytical strength with strategic thinking to support product launches, lifecycle planning, and customer-focused business results.
Key Responsibilities
- Forecasting & Demand Planning
- Develop and maintain detailed SKU-level forecasts to balance inventory health with customer demand.
- Monitor forecast accuracy and performance, making adjustments as needed to improve results.
- Incorporate product lifecycle planning into forecasting, including new item introductions, replenishment, and excess inventory management.
- Assortment & Item Lifecycle Management
- Support assortment planning in alignment with customer strategies and category goals.
- Partner with merchandising and sales teams to provide analysis and insights that inform assortment decisions.
- Replenishment & Order Management
- Execute replenishment buys and purchase orders according to planning timelines.
- Manage order flow to support on-time delivery and strong in-stock levels.
- Review purchase order details, shipping windows, and cancellation deadlines for accuracy.
- Resolve operational issues such as shipment delays, shortages, and distribution variances.
- Inventory Management
- Maintain target in-stock levels through effective replenishment and inventory transfer strategies.
- Analyze inventory performance to identify slow-moving or obsolete products and recommend action plans.
- Reporting & Analysis
- Gather and analyze data from internal systems to support planning and business decisions.
- Prepare recurring business reports in partnership with cross-functional teams.
- Provide trend analysis and insights for business reviews and planning discussions.
- Compliance & Performance
- Monitor service and fulfillment performance to help prevent operational issues and financial penalties.
