Location: Zumiez Home Office – Lynnwood, WA (in-office)

Position Purpose

The Zumiez Digital Department is looking for a Product Photographer to help bring our product to life with excellent photography for all Zumiez digital touchpoints, and our printed catalog. The Product Photographer will work within the photography studio to meet daily production deadlines, adhering to quality standards and style guides, while maintaining a high-volume workflow.

As part of a small, dynamic team, this individual will be expected to work well in a fast-paced, rapidly changing and deadline driven environment. The ideal candidate must work well with a team, fostering collaboration while also able to work independently. Success in this role requires organizational skills, attention to details, a tenacious yet tactful approach, and strong problem-solving skills. Most of all, this person must be passionate about great photography, results, and customer satisfaction.

Essential Functions

  • Photograph products in various studio scenarios including table-top, flat lay-down, and occasional on model.
  • Ensure all new products that arrive daily are photographed by the end of the day, every day. Communicate production updates to the team.
  • Troubleshoot lighting schematics on-set to achieve the best possible lighting for a variety of products.
  • Troubleshoot tethered shooting challenges both on and off set. Able to think and act quickly for least amount of photo shoot disruption.
  • Perform complete tear down and set up of shooting set, including backdrops, lights, stands, props, and camera stand. Ensure that all equipment is set up, handled, and stored properly.
  • Operate and maintain photography equipment. Help keep camera equipment clean, properly handled and stored. Keep studio work area clean, safe, and organized.
  • Style product for photo shoots according to style guides. Work with the Lead Photographer and Studio Manager to uphold high quality photography standards. Continually look for ways to improve standards.
  • Give direction to inexperienced models on-set, to achieve desired product photos and a successful model shoot. Convey a positive, friendly demeanor during photo shoots.
  • Ensure that all image files are accurately named and exported into the proper folders.
  • Ownership of daily personal calendar to ensure all deadlines are being met. Communicate out when challenges arise.
  • Occasionally execute a photo shoot outside of the studio using natural light and the environment

Job Qualifications and Requirements

  • 1 -2 years working in a professional photo studio with still-life and on model product photography.
  • Demonstrated understanding of mono light studio strobes, various light modifiers, radio transmitters, and tethered shooting- REQUIRED. Able to perform basic maintenance on light heads such as replacing bulbs and fuses.
  • Comprehensive understanding of professional grade DSLR, mirrorless cameras, lenses, and tethered shooting.
  • Must have a portfolio that demonstrates ability to capture high quality product photography images, showing a variety of subjects and lighting methods, with an emphasis on studio photography.
  • Understanding of lighting ratios and schematics.
  • Strong computer skills. Comfortable on a Mac.
  • Proficient in the latest versions of Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop, as well as professional grade Nikon DSLR, mirrorless, and Sony mirrorless camera systems.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to stay focused and work independently (self-starter) and as part of a team.
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Comfortable in a deadline driven environment with rapidly changing priorities and a high volume of items to shoot while maintaining a consistent positive attitude.

Physical Demands

  • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time and be able to lift up to 30 lbs.
  • Must be able to perform regular physical activities around a photo studio such as bending, kneeling, reaching, etc.
  • Able to tolerate flashing strobe photography lights.
  • Must be able to distinguish colors, materials, and textures.
  • Able to analyze and determine accurate color.
