Role Description

The Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) Senior Associate will develop, implement, and oversee comprehensive EHS programs to ensure compliance with regulations, minimize environmental impact, and promote a safe and healthy environment for all employees, contingent workers, and guests.

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Environment, Health, and Safety (EHS) Senior Associate to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in EHS management, with specific experience in farm operations and process engineering.

Responsibilities

EHS Program Development:

  • Develop and implement EHS policies, procedures, and programs tailored to the specific needs of research and development activities, with a focus on farm operations.
  • Conduct regular assessments and audits to identify potential hazards and areas for improvement.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate EHS considerations into research and development projects.

Regulatory Compliance:

  • Stay abreast of relevant environmental, health, and safety regulations and ensure compliance with all applicable laws and standards.
  • Manage permits, licenses, and reporting requirements related to environmental protection and workplace safety.

Risk Management:

  • Identify, assess, and mitigate environmental and occupational health risks.
  • Develop emergency response plans and protocols to address potential incidents and ensure the safety of employees, visitors, and the surrounding community.

Engineering Support

  • Working with other facilities engineers and 3rd-party solution providers, specify, evaluate, and/or recommend technical solution options for various process control, measurement, and sustainability improvements.
  • Manage approved projects to implement desired outcomes, including management of the project budget, schedule, risks, acceptance criteria, and stake-holder communications.
  • Design and implement engineering controls to enhance safety within a dynamic research and development environment.

Training and Education:

  • Develop and deliver training programs to educate employees on EHS policies, procedures, and best practices.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Monitor EHS performance metrics and trends to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Lead or participate in incident investigations and root cause analyses, implementing corrective and preventive actions as necessary.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in chemical, civil, mechanical, or environmental engineering, occupational health and safety, or a related engineering/science discipline is required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in EHS program management, ideally with direct experience in multiple of the following disciplines:
    • Farm operations
    • Biological safety
    • Chemical safety
    • Laboratory safety
  • Strong understanding of environmental regulations (e.g., EPA, OSHA) and industry best practices.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage and influence stakeholders in a matrix environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven track record of developing and implementing successful EHS programs and initiatives.
  • The ability to use personal protection equipment including hearing protection, respiratory protection, and safety glasses.
