What does the job entail? 

At Monarch our Product Managers play a pivotal role in shaping the future of farming by turning ambiguity into clarity. As the Senior Manager, Hardware Product Management you will be responsible for ensuring Monarch builds a suite of hardware products that meet customer needs and creates significant value for them by driving usage growth. Monarch’s hardware product ecosystem comprises the groundbreaking MK-V tractor, tractor implements, accessories, energy products, and licensing engagements. This is a leader doer role and in it you will also be responsible for being the Product Manager for the MK-V tractor.

In this role you will work with stakeholders across the company to set goals and success metrics for each of the product areas and coach a team of product managers as they prioritize and execute against the roadmap. You will provide strategic leadership and direction that optimizes for customer needs, driving competitive advantages, and achieving rapid growth objectives. In support of your team, you’ll be expected to deeply understand customer problems, dig into PRDs, and ensure timely delivery of product launches that meet our quality, performance, and safety standards.

To be successful in this role at Monarch, it is critical that you have proven experience building complex B2B hardware products (ideally a tractor platform similar to the 40hp MK-V), are well versed in agriculture equipment and vehicle systems, have led product management teams at fast-growing startups, and have demonstrated success aligning senior stakeholders to deliver world class products.

Responsibilities:

  • Product Leadership: Develop and communicate a comprehensive hardware product strategy in alignment with Monarch's mission and vision. Align stakeholders across the company on the product strategy, roadmap, and product launches. Lead a team of product managers to shape product roadmaps.
  • Be a Champion for the Customer -- Develop deep empathy for farmers, and ensure your team is continuously interacting with customers to derive insights via qualitative and quantitative approaches. Ensure people across the company regularly hear and internalize the learnings and insights your team gleans from customers.
  • Be an Expert on the Ecosystem – Be an expert on the commercial autonomous vehicle and farm-tech ecosystem and understand how our products impacts farms, farm operations, and others in the ecosystem (e.g., partners, suppliers, dealers).
  • Manage & Coach – Be a people multiplier, empowering those around you to use their talents to the fullest. Manage your team so they perform at their best, and coach them to grow their capabilities and impact.
  • Create Frameworks – Work with stakeholders to jointly define and establish product frameworks and methodologies that are the right fit for Monarch.
  • Explain the Why -- Clearly articulate why we are trying to solve customer and/or business problems, and how these align to the overall company goals.
  • Lead the What – Translate our product strategy into goals and success criteria that enable successful execution. Collaborate closely with stakeholders to define hardware product requirements. Support your team as they define products that will enable Monarch to achieve these goals.
  • Organize the When -- Balance near and long-term customer needs, business goals, and resources to maintain a product roadmap and help your team manage their backlogs. Oversee the full product development lifecycle, from concept to production in partnership with the Hardware Program Management team as they drive execution.
  • Manage Trade-offs & Compromises – Work with your team on prioritization decisions when limited resources and/or time require something be compromised.
  • Drive Launches -- Work cross-functionally with Sales, Operations, Marketing, Supply Chain, Legal, and other teams to bring products to market that meet Monarch’s performance, quality, and safety standards.
  • Gather Feedback & Iterate – Define and measure product success metrics. Set clear expectations with your team for how and when to collect feedback. Participate in user feedback sessions and incorporate learnings into the product strategy and roadmap.
  • Communicate -- Ensure all stakeholders have a clear understanding of the product strategy, the status of product development work, and the performance of existing products.

More practical skills needed:

  • 7 years of Product Management experience, with 3 years leading a team of product managers in fast-paced organizations.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Computer Science, or Engineering.
  • Experience creating product roadmaps and driving decision alignment across multiple teams.
  • Track record of success in defining and taking new innovative 0-1 products to market.
  • Product Management experience with an agriculture vehicle platform similar to the 40hp MK-V.
  • Experience managing products at commercial scale.
  • Familiarity with industry-specific regulations and safety standards.

Physical Requirements:

  • Visiting customer farms and participating in farm operations
  • Regularly climbing on and off tractors
