ZEST Preparatory Academy Charter School is a K-5 charter school in Douglasville, GA (Metro Atlanta area). Our mission is to provide an academically rigorous, supportive, and joyful learning environment to develop the leader inside every student for lifelong educational achievement and impactful community service.

OUR APPROACH

Our college preparatory model includes three key components beginning with an intentional focus on language and literacy development to increase critical thinking and reading proficiencies for all students.

Second, a discovery-based learning approach where teachers encourage our students to take ownership of their learning by discovering new ideas and solutions to real world challenges.

The third component, leadership, teaches essential habits of leadership so students can apply real world skills to their overall growth and development.

ZEST Prep intentionally teaches leadership skills beginning in kindergarten.

JOB TITLE : Teacher

CLASSIFICATION : Instructional

POSITION SUMMARY

JOB EXPECTATIONS

The Classroom Teacher is responsible for all aspects of leading and facilitating learning in ZEST Preparatory Academy classrooms.

Duties include, but are not limited to :

INSTRUCTIONAL LEADERSHIP

  • Serve as lead instructor for classroom instruction
  • Write and implement lesson plans for all academic subjects
  • Implement a student-centered, problem-based curriculum
  • Demonstrate the ability to embrace differentiated instructional approaches to learning
  • Collaborate with peers to plan units, examine assessments, and student data
  • Engage in continuous professional development and shared learning with other school staff
  • Collaborate with students and families to create a Customized Learning Plan for each student
  • Communicate with families regularly regarding student progress (via phone, email, and / or communication apps).
  • Demonstrate a sound ability to create a positive learning environment with appropriate classroom management

COMMUNITY COLLABORATION

  • Build and maintain positive relationships with students
  • Work collaboratively with a diverse group of school colleagues, parents, and community members
  • Actively participate on a school-based committee
  • Attend school & community events
  • Supervise field experiences and other school programs

Ancillary Duties :

Include, but are not limited to :

  • Demonstrate positive support for the Board, administrative team, school staff, and the community
  • Attend after school activities
  • Assist with student arrival and dismissal
  • Required to have prompt, regular attendance and be available to work on-site
  • Perform other duties as assigned by leadership team

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS :

Education :

  • A Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field from an accredited college or university; Master’s degree preferred
  • Certification or Licensure : Georgia SRT4-Certification in Early Childhood Education or related field (P-5); or Passed the GACE Program Admissions Assessment or have exemption eligibility AND passed the GACE in Early Childhood Education
  • Willingness to obtain a reading, dyslexia, or gifted endorsement within two years of employment

Experience :

  • Knowledge of Georgia Standards of Excellence
  • Three years experience as an educator preferred
  • Experience working with elementary aged students preferred
  • Charter school experience desirable

Requirements

  • Demonstrated belief that all students can achieve high levels of academic achievement
  • Ability to be flexible and adapt as needed
  • Current authorization to work in the United States
  • Clear Criminal Background Check

  • Competitive salary scale that is commensurate with experience.

  • Contributions to the Teacher Retirement System (TRS) in accordance with Georgia state law, as well as an additional, optional 403(b) retirement account.
