Position Purpose

The primary purpose of this position is to assist the credit union in achieving its service mission of building trusted relationships by providing our members with superior financial solutions and outstanding service.

This position directs and oversees all aspects of lending activity for the credit union and ensures effective and efficient operations, quality of member service, and compliance with existing regulations and policies. We are looking for a strategically-oriented, passionate credit union advocate focused on Financial Wellness for the organization and our communities. The position will manage lending operations. You will be a member of the Leadership team, serving as a strategic leader overseeing all Consumer, Real Estate and Commercial Lending. You will be responsible for executing the strategic initiatives, long term business strategy, and lending practices. You will be responsible for maintaining and increasing growth, retention, and quality of business with new and existing members. You will have exceptional abilities in assessing/implementing opportunities and originating methods for ensuring durability of products/services. Strong analytical and solution-oriented skillset is required.

Essential Functions

  • Oversees Consumer Loan Department functions; directly and indirectly supervises department staff, oversees Lending leadership to ensure they adequately hire, train, support, lead, develop, and monitor the work of their direct reports.
  • Conducts performance reviews, allocates resources to meet operational needs within the department, reviews and approves, denies, or modifies.
  • Participates in strategic planning and development of credit union policies, procedures, and goals; Develops and implement policies and procedures consistent with external laws and regulations and in support of the credit union's goals and strategic direction; Creates and integrate process and product efficiencies to positively impact member experience and loan growth.
  • Establishes and ensures the implementation and achievement of target goals of the department. Communicates goals and direction with all staff to ensure clear understanding of lending rules, regulations, requirements, and expectations. Oversees and monitors loan functions to achieve strategic goals while directing the work of loan managers including underwriting, loan processing, and loan approval/denials. Oversees loan staff performance while providing mentoring, coaching, and training to support and develop the department toward targets and goals.
  • Researches and evaluates feasibility of new lending products. Collaborates with executive leadership in developing and implementing plans for expansion of lending programs. Stays abreast of changes in the industry and any changing trends, while attempting to effectively react to changes to maintain competitiveness. Responsible for researching and recommending enhanced technology used within the lending area.
  • Develops and maintains rapport with buyers in the secondary market and sells loans in this market as stipulated by policy.
  • Responsible for reporting on lending operations and results to the management team and on occasion the Board of Directors.
  • Partners with other departments internally to ensure success of lending products and promotions.
  • Executes strategic plans and tactics to maximize success of lending goals.
  • Reviews reports to ensure the success of the department and organizational goals.
  • Responsible for budget creation and oversight.
  • Responsible for oversight of vendor management.
  • Performs all other tasks and duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications

Required:

  • 7 to 10 years of lending and leadership experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration or related field
  • Knowledge of the secondary market and experience with first and second mortgage residential real estate lending; must have proven track record of selling and servicing loans.
  • Working knowledge of regulations affecting lending
  • Experience in budget management.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to organize and analyze financial information and to accurately perform complex financial calculations
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Thorough and detailed understanding of lending and collection/bankruptcy regulations, lien laws, and loan documentation
