About your role:

This is a professional position for a Relief Systems Engineer E3 working for an engineering consulting firm in the oil and gas, mining, and heavy industrial industries.

Essential Duties and Major Responsibilities:

  • Project and Client Management
    • Complete overpressure protection sizing and analyzing tasks
    • Conduct QA/QC efforts on deliverables
    • Participate in regular meetings with client
    • Participate in site visits for data gathering
  • Other Responsibilities
    • Conduct relief device sizing calculations
    • Conduct flare and relief header hydraulic modeling (Aspen Flarenet, VMG Flare)
    • Generate process simulation for emergency relieving conditions (HYSYS, Promax, Symmetry, UniSim)
    • Update Process Flow Diagram (PFD) for protected systems
    • Update Piping & Instrumentation Diagram (P&ID) for protected systems
    • Conduct peer checks and reviews

Interface with mechanical engineering for relief device stress analysis

Qualifications


Education

  • Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering
  • 4 years’ experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education

Type of Experience Needed to be Successful

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Outlook, Excel
  • Working knowledge with relevant industry codes and standards such as API 520/521
  • Experience with iPRSM, Salus, SuperChems and/or PSPPM preferred
  • Self-starter with ability to work multiple projects simultaneously
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Specialized Skills

  • Intermediate communication (written and verbal) skills, to deliver more complex information effectively.
  • Intermediate problem-solving skills to be able to manage complex tasks and work through to solution with little guidance and direction.
  • Advanced leadership skills with experience leading large or technical teams through complex deliverables.
  • Proficient user of technology and software required to execute daily tasks.
  • Advanced mathematical, organizational, and time-management skills.

Supervisory Expectations:

  • The position does not have any regular responsibility for overseeing or supervising the work of other team members.

Independence of Action

  • Results are defined and existing practices are used as guidelines to determine specific work methods and carry out work activities independently; supervisor/manager is available to resolve problems.

  • The work environment is the typical office, and construction environment. The employee must complete their work satisfactorily in an environment where there are significant distractions, including staff, clients, and vendors walking through and conversing, telephones ringing, conversations carrying over, loud noises, and interruptions to answer questions from others. As well as loud noises, OSHA hazards, industrial materials, machinery & equipment, dangers chemical substances, and interruptions requiring the employee to answer questions from others. Must be able to drive to sites or meetings with clients.

Work Hours:

Company Hours

This position works 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Hours vary and are dependent on business needs.

40 Hour Work Week

Monday through Friday, Hours may vary with the workload.

Evenings/Weekends/OT

Position may require occasional overtime including weekend work depending on task
