Zap Energy is Hiring an Industrial Hygienist Near Everett, WA

Zap Energy is a growing startup in the competitive fusion energy space. Zap is seeking an Industrial Hygienist to join our Environmental, Health, and Safety team at our facilities in Everett, WA.

The Industrial Hygienist is responsible for implementing, improving, and growing Zap Energy’s Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) program and related activities as we grow. This includes helping to ensure a safe and healthy workplace in a very innovative and cutting-edge environment and driving a comprehensive, empowered safety culture within a dynamic research and development organization.

Responsibilities:

  • Assure compliance with all jurisdictions having authority in environmental, safety and health.
  • Interact effectively with all levels of internal customers and other stakeholders to identify and develop strategies to assess and prioritize risk, identify best management practices to address these risks and work with all team members to identify the appropriate control for the risk.
  • Assess exposures and conduct appropriate monitoring as needed.
  • Conduct audits to identify gaps, work with appropriate personnel to identify controls, and then track closure of the gaps.
  • Drive prevention and risk reduction programs to improve safety and health programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Identify and provide technical training and awareness of safety and health practices and risk reduction.
  • Communicate effectively with all levels of leadership on EHS matters.
  • Develop and maintain written EHS programs, plans and procedures.
  • Review and conduct incident investigations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a science-related field and 10 years of experience. Prefer an emphasis in occupational safety and health.
  • Demonstrated ability to research and apply the best industry and safe work practices.
  • Strong knowledge and experience in interpreting, applying, and documenting regulatory codes.
  • Knowledge in industrial hygiene requirements and experience in industrial hygiene monitoring.

Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States for any employer. The estimated annual salary range for this position is $90K – 125K. Candidates may be considered for other positions at Zap Energy and the actual salary will be based on relevant education, experience, and other qualifications. The range is published in accordance with the Washington Equal Pay and Opportunity Act.

Zap Energy is building a low-cost, compact and scalable fusion energy platform that confines and compresses plasma without the need for expensive and complex magnetic coils. Zap’s sheared-flow-stabilized Z-pinch technology offers the shortest potential path to commercially viable fusion and requires orders of magnitude less capital than traditional approaches. Zap Energy has over 60 employees in two facilities near Seattle and is backed by leading financial and strategic investors.
