Shift: Friday, Saturday, Sunday 8am - 4:30pm.

Pay Range: $16.00 - $17.00 per hour

Description:

The primary goal of an Activity Aide is to improve the physical, emotional, and mental well-being of patients or residents through engaging and meaningful activities.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborating with the healthcare team to design and implement a variety of activities that cater to the physical, cognitive, social, and emotional needs of patients or residents. These activities could include games, arts and crafts, exercise classes, music therapy, outings, and more.
  • Evaluating the interests, preferences, and abilities of patients or residents to create personalized activity plans that promote engagement and enjoyment.
  • Keeping accurate records of the activities offered, attendance, and the response of patients or residents to different activities. This information can help in assessing the effectiveness of the activity program.
  • Interacting with patients or residents in a compassionate and empathetic manner, fostering a positive and supportive environment. Communicating with family members and caregivers to gather insights about the individual's preferences and history.
  • Providing physical assistance to individuals who require it during activities, ensuring their safety and comfort throughout the process.
  • Creating activity schedules that accommodate the needs of patients or residents while considering medical treatments, therapies, and other commitments.
  • Utilizing activities as therapeutic interventions to address specific physical or mental health goals. For example, using music therapy to improve cognitive function or organizing gentle exercises to maintain mobility.
  • Modifying activities to suit the varying needs and abilities of patients, considering factors such as age, medical conditions, and cognitive levels.
  • Collaborating with nurses, therapists, social workers, and other healthcare professionals to ensure a comprehensive approach to patient care.
  • Assessing the impact of activities on patients' quality of life, emotional well-being, social interactions, and overall health.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent is usually required.
  • Excellent communication skills to interact effectively with patients.
  • Empathy and patience are essential to understand individual needs and provide emotional support.
  • Creativity in coming up with new ideas and themes for events and programs.
  • Capability to plan, schedule, and coordinate a variety of activities and events.
  • Attention to detail to ensure activities run smoothly.
  • Collaboration with other staff members, such as nurses and therapists, to ensure the activities align with the residents' care plans.
  • Keeping accurate records of activities, participation levels, and residents' responses.
  • Understanding safety protocols and ensuring residents' safety during activities.
